Mission Statement
The Purpose of the Sapphic Voices Website We like to read. For years we have read and enjoyed the published Works of Lesbians. You have made us laugh, cry, think and get wet. You have given voice to thoughts and feelings we did not even know we had until you expressed them on the printed page. You have kept us company in lonely times, when we thought we were the only ones. You have shared your lives with us and made us stronger people. All because you write. Now we want to return the favor. Lesbian publishers and bookstores are struggling these days: mainstream publishing houses and bookstore chains are squeezing them out with economies of scale and lower profit margins. Because of this intense competition, some of our favorite publishers have been forced into fund raising efforts, closing offices and even postponing publishing seasons. Their choices of what to publish becomes limited to those works they are sure will sell. So only the very best and most popular Authoresses get published. We believe that there are a lot of Women out there that are trying their hand at writing, but have not yet developed their craft to the point of contacting agents, publishers, etc. Not to mention that a lot of good stuff never even gets published. This is a space where you can post your Stories or Poetry for others to read and enjoy, and for you to receive some feedback and encouragement for your efforts. The Internet has made the world a smaller place. Take advantage of the technology we are offering you.
