“Moss speaking.” Alexandria Moss spoke into the mouth piece of the phone that had just woken her at 1:42 AM on
a Sunday morning.
“Moss, We got a case, we’ll have a car pick you up in 30.” The voice on the other end of the phone answered.
Alex hung up the phone and slid out of bed, 20 minutes later she was showered and dressed with a small bag packed
with a change of clothes. She knew when she only had 30 minutes that it was an out of state case and she would
need over night clothes.
She had just made herself a coffee when there was a car horn sounding outside her house. She turned the lights
off in her kitchen and went to the front door keying in the code to set the alarm for her house before she turned
the last light off and locked the front door, it was exactly 30 minutes since the phone call when she slid into
the big black four wheel drive beside her colleague Agent Fips.
“Your always ready on time, I like that.” Fips said smiling in welcome to his colleague.
“Yeah well Jameson is the punctual type.” Alex responded taking a sip of her coffee.
“What have we got, do you know?”
“No idea, they stopped by my place first, I got the call just like you.” Fips answered looking out the window.
Alex made a sound you could situate with annoyance and took another mouthful of her coffee. She enjoyed her job,
it was a career she picked since she was a child and she had always had the talent for it. Her boss’ had always
had her consulting with the psychiatrist however because of how she rarely seemed to be affected by the cases she
worked on, even the ones that required most of her team to have some extensive therapy.
Alex was a profiler, she worked with the FBI on the rough murder cases, the ones the local police couldn’t figure
out on there own. She was always present at crime scenes and always expected to find a profile for the unsub. She
never failed not yet, and her profiles were generally very accurate. She had worked hard through college and university
to get to where she was now, and though she had no parents to make proud, she made herself proud, not arrogantly
but confidently.
Alex had just finished her coffee when the car had pulled up at the commercial airport, there plane was a private
jet, owned by the Bureau. She and Fips slid out of the car and made there way quickly to the Jet where they was
boarded strait away and they made their way to the comfortable seats in the passengers cabin.
“You two are late again.” Agent Jameson said to them, they were in fact the last two to arrive and the plane was
already prepping for take off.
“Sorry boss, maybe your drivers should drive faster.” Alex said smiling at her boss and the other Agents that made
up the team.
Alex was a tall woman, she had long slender legs and a flat firm waist, rounded breasts and buttocks and all made
up for a very attractive womanly figure, but it wasn’t her body that drew most people to her, it wasn’t even her
long silky black hair or gently face, but her strange violet eyes that could make any person burn if they were
looked at the right way.
“Moss don’t pick on my drivers ok, you cant blame them because your tardy.” Jameson said chuckling softly.
“Yeah yeah. What have we got?” Agent Casey asked preventing anymore of the friendly interactions going on.
Agent Hall, the only other female on the team and also in charge of the media control began to brief the rest of
the team as the plane took of. The case was that of a serial sexual sadist who quite literally split his victims
in half. The coroners report for the 3 victims so far indicated that the man killed his victims by splitting them
in half, the tool used to split them was yet to be figured out. All the victims were female and showed evidence
of rape before being killed painfully and slowly.
“That’s amazing that someone can do that.” Fips said disgust evident in his voice.
“I’d say it was a man that’s mother died during child birth and was subject to abuse from either a father or other
family member that blamed him for his mothers death.” Alex said looking over the scene photos of the women.
“You can tell out that from a few pictures just looking at the pictures?” Agent Fletcher asked credulously.
“Yeah, and I would say that he is a some what young man, late 20’s early 30’s at the most, my guess is he is a
victim of rape or molest.” Alex said looking through the file that she had been given.
“Come on now, your making that up. You cant tell all that from a few photos and a file.” Fips said looking at the
file trying to see what Alex saw.
Alex didn’t say anything she just raised an eye brow at him before turning back to the file and ignoring the looks
she was getting from the rest of her team. She was good at her job and they had all worked with her long enough
that she thought they would get used to her gleaming the starts of her profile with so little information. She
read through the rest of her file and only became more sure of the information she had already put together.
The plane landed an hour and a half after take off and Alex had said nothing since take off when she had given
them her first information on the profile she was creating even now. She sat and listened to the other agents talking
about the unsub and the case, the victims and the connections.
All the victims were brunettes with blue eyes and slender figures which made Alex want to know more about women
who may have died two and a half to three decades ago that fit the descriptions of the current victims. She requested
a search through the deaths data base but she felt like it would be futile.
The agents got off the plane and were greeted by the local chief of police who escorted them back to the station
and into the room that had been set up for them, while the chief was talking to the head of the team Alex set about
pinning up information and writing up key elements of her profile as she listened to the chief talking.
“Alright well, we need to follow up some leads, Fips and Casey you two can go over and talk to the neighbours please.”
Jameson said gesturing the two agents and tossing Fips some keys to one of the unmarked squad cars they had been
given to use.
“Jameson, I will go with them if you please.” Alex informed more then asked.
“But you need to be here working on a profile.” Jameson said raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah well I can only do so much with so little, and I have done it. Seeing the scene will give me more insight
you know that.” Alex said casually and giving Jameson an almost pleading look.
“Alright then.” Jameson dismissed the three agents and turned back to the chief.
After getting directions from one of the constables at the station they was soon on there way out to the latest
victims and neighbours houses. Fips and Casey talked about the case and other possible motives that made Alex roll
her eyes but she just looked out that window and pretended not to listen.
Alex slid out of the car at the entrance to the victims house and waited until Fips and Casey had driven down the
street a little further to the next house before she really looked at the house. She stared at the exterior and
noticed that the house wasn’t in very good shape from what she could tell, the garden was over grown and neglected
and the paint of the gate was peeling.
She moved towards the house slowly still taking in the exterior as she moved, she was brought back to her senses
when she heard a sound behind her and she glanced over her shoulder to see a tall slightly older then herself woman
walking slowly up behind her. She ignored her and glanced back towards the house and kept on towards the front
door.
She was about to reach into her pocket as she made it too the front door when the woman behind her reached past
her with a key and sliding it into the hole in the door she unlocked it. Alex pushed the door open and stepped
into the house aware of the woman behind her but more so the blood stains on the floor, these were old and not
enough to be fatal but she noticed its faded outline nonetheless.
Moving slowly through the house Alex took in a lot of things, there was a length of rope still on the floor but
kicked under a sofa. There was blood on the mat in the living room but it didn’t look like it had been dropped
onto the carpet instead it looked like it had soaked through from the bottom. Frowning she bent down and lifted
the edge of the mat to see a smeared patch of blood. She mentally took note of this before moving on.
She saw pictures of grandparents and nieces and nephews but none of any children that may have been the victims.
She continued through the house and up into the main bedroom where she found some pamphlets about insemination
and she decided her first assumption was right. She pulled her phone from her pocket and dialled the number for
Fletcher and asked him a few questions regarding the other victims and pregnancy or insemination.
She turned and left the room walking through the rest of the house gauging a few other tidbits that may help her
profile and she was aware of the woman behind her the whole time. Finally she walked back out the front and stood
staring at the exterior of the house again.
“Do you like the shabby look of this place or something?” The woman asked finally speaking.
Alex finally looked at the woman, she looked like she was about 3 years older then herself and she was probably
2 inches taller which put her at about 6’3, she had a slim figure and full breasts and a slightly lack behind,
her face was attractive and framed by short blonde chin length hair, her eyes were a dark green that instantly
attracted Alex though she was professional enough not to stare.
“Actually it reminds me slightly of my childhood home, but it intrigues me because of the case.” Alex said smiling
softly, she saw the affect of her eyes on the other woman’s face and for once was completely ok with the lust she
saw flash across the other woman’s face.
“Ah, you’re the profiler then? My names Lily Granger, I'm the sister in laws cousin.” The woman introduced herself.
“That’s me. I'm Alex, Alex Moss.” Alex said and extended her hand to Lily.
They shook hands and Lily was about to say more when Fips and Casey walked in the gate way. Alex turned to them
and told them about the blood under the mat, and Casey turned to Lily and started asking her a few questions. Alex
stared at the house again and for a moment she wasn’t standing in the same place and the house had changed, shrunk
a little.
Alex was now standing in front of her own house, the one she grew up in, there was police swarming all over the
yard and she wasn’t the 26 year old she had been standing in front of the victims house but was instead a 12 year
old standing in front of her own house as police and paramedics rushed to save her parents whom it was already
too late for.
The scene she was reliving then changed again and she was a 12 year old standing now inside the house standing
beside her parents prone lifeless bodies, she was staring down, not at the bodies but at the blood surrounding
them. The scene changes again and she is sitting in the police station silently watching the people coming and
going, the criminals in hand cuffs being lead to the interview rooms and holding cells and the one man that stops
and stares at her with a sad almost apologetic look in his eyes.
“Moss!” Casey grabbed her shoulder and gave her a little shake effectively bringing her back to the present.
She looked from Casey to Ms. Granger and saw the worry in there eyes and knew they had been trying to get her attention
for some time. She glanced back at the house before giving them both a reassuring smile and looking down at her
hands.
“Sorry, I was somewhere else for a moment.” Alex said a little shyly and her cheeks warmed slightly.
“I’ll say, I have never seen you like that Moss. Freaked me out.” Casey was scowling at Alex now.
“Oh don’t be like that Casey. Hey do you think Jameson would give me the rest of the day off?” Alex knew the answer
she was going to get was going to be a little snide but she wanted to get the worried looks of Ms. Granger's and
Agent Casey’s faces.
“You know for a fact he will, you already have the bases for a profile before we even got here, besides I'm sure
if I told him about your little episode just now that he would be none too happy. Why though, do you want the rest
of the day off?” Casey was curious and Alex didn’t see a reason to lie to him.
“I want to go up state to the prison, I want to visit someone I know up there.” Alex didn’t lie, but she wasn’t
going to give him more then that.
“Is it relevant to the case?” Fips had come out of the house and was standing on the bottom step looking at them.
“No I don’t think so.” Alex said tilting her head slightly and looking at Fips with her gentle violet eyes.
The look wasn’t meant to have any real affect on the males in her company at the present but she noticed the brief
look of desire she got from them both and she inwardly cursed her strange eyes. She did how ever fail to see the
desire that briefly showed on Ms. Granger’s face before it was masked with a feigned curiosity.
“Well, I think we are done here anyways so we will give you a ride back to the station so you can ask the Boss.”
Fips said stepping off the step and nodding at Ms. Granger as he passed her.
“Yeah, Right. See you Ms. Granger.” Alex turned and strode away almost rudely before Lily could say anything.
“No doubt you will.” Lily said quietly when she was the only one standing in front of the house and looking at
the gate that the Federal Agents had passed through.
Back at the Station Alex had asked Jameson if she could have the day off and though he protested slightly he soon
gave in when Casey had told him of Alex’ ‘episode’ as it where being called. He let her off and she was soon on
the phone to a car hiring company. A mere hour later she was climbing into the drivers seat of a car and pulling
out of the spot the car was parked in.
Driving along the busy highways Alex had time to think on her past, she thought about the day she had arrived back
from school to see the police and paramedics swarming about her house, and the day she became orphaned. One man
had destroyed the life she knew, and she still didn’t know why he had done it, even after 14 years she never thought,
until this day, to ask him why he did it.
She still remembered the hollow feeling that even now was not completely gone when she had found out her parents
were dead. She hadn’t cried that day, she hadn’t cried at all for the death of her parents, she simply put it out
of her mind, passed it off as something that could happen and did happen to her.
That was how the Alex, as she is now was born, by the thoughtless murder of her parents. Agent Moss was conceived
and after years of growing in the womb that was school’s she was birthed into the world of true crime and murder
and given the Job of creating a profile for some of the nastiest murders she had ever had the misfortune to meet.
Agent Alex was born with the detachment required for her kind of job, she wasn’t affect by the scenes she went
too or the photos she had seen, and like the day she saw her parent’s bloodied bodies, she never cried never let
the scenes and the blood affect her in any way, it was because of the man that had mercilessly killed her parents
that she strove to become a Criminal Profiler.
Alex had made it to the Prison’s Visitor car park before she could think any more on her past. She parked the car
and walked to the entrance of the Prison, telling the people there she was there to see Mark Turner and then sitting
down as she waited for him to be notified and bought to a secure room where she would be able to speak to him safely.
It wasn’t long that she had to wait and she was soon lead to the room, it was walled with strong link wire and
it held within it a single table and two chairs. She was lead into the room and told she should take a seat and
that Turner wouldn’t be but a few minutes and so she did as she was told and waited.
The link wire door on the other side of the room opened and in walked the man, though a lot older and aged looking
then she remembered, and was lead to the seat across from the table. He was seated by the armed guards and his
ankle shackles were locked to the floor beneath the table.
Mark Turner looked at the woman, and when Alex looked up into his eyes she saw nothing but recognition in them.
The dark blue, almost violet eyes looking back at her showed recognition and something else Alex couldn’t tell.
She had never noticed his eyes before right then and she was a little shocked to see the similarity of them to
her own.
“I don’t know if you remember me Mr. Turner, but you killed a couple 14 years ago –“
“I remember you just fine Ms. Moss.” Mark interrupted Alex when the guards had left the room.
“I… Can you tell me –“ She was interrupted again.
“Why I killed your ‘parents’? Ah, so no one ever told you…” Mark frowned and looked at the table, and Alex saw
something… sorrow perhaps, In his eyes.
“No, no one ever told me why you killed them.” Alex tried not to be affected but for the first time in 14 years
her heart was beginning to race.
“They weren’t your parents Alex. They were given you when you was a baby, do you think your eyes came from two
people with brown eyes? No it was genetically impossible.” Mark looked at Alex with eyes that were begging her
to believe him, and she didn’t know if she did or not but she knew that the people that she had called her parents
weren’t her biological parents.
“I realised they weren’t my parents about 3 years after they was buried, but that still doesn’t tell me why you
killed them.” Alex dropped her eyes from his her heart now pounding and she was beginning to think she was going
to regret coming here.
“I did it for you Alex… and I did it for your mother god bless her soul. The people you was with… they didn’t love
you. They could never have loved you the way your real mother did.”
“Who is she? If she loved me so much why did she let me be adopted by them? That doesn’t sound like love to me!”
Alex almost yelled to the man across from her before she steadied herself and held back the tears that were threatening
to spill out of her eyes.
“You really want to know? Do you have a pen and paper?” Mark asked gently, he didn’t look mad that she had yelled
at him, he looked sad almost to the point of tears and Alex didn’t know what would have been worse. Tears or rash
words.
“What do you want me to take notes?” Alex was still mad but she didn’t know why anymore and that just made her
madder.
“No, I'm going to give you the address of your grandparents and you can go and talk to them about it, if you really
want to know that is.” Turner spoke softly and looked up at Alex’ eyes.
Alex didn’t say anything, she looked at the man and saw the sincerity in his face. The face of the man before her
looked softer now, gentle and some of the wrinkles had seemed to have vanished and the face looked more youthful,
surprising Alex.
“How old are you?” Alex hadn’t meant to ask but she did anyways.
“40. Your mother would be 39 this year.” Mark didn’t hesitate to answer the question.
Alex considered this as she reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a pen and piece of paper sliding them
across the table to Turner, who tentatively took the pen and scribbled an address on the back of the car hire company
card before sliding them back across the table to Alex.
“If you really want to know the answers to your questions, Go to them first. If you still have questions or they
refuse to speak to you, come back here and I promise to tell you everything you want to know.” Mark spoke softly
and looked again into the deep beauty of Alex’s violet eyes.
“Why cant you tell me now?” Alex asked looking at the almost violet eyes of the man and being surprised by the
lack of desire she saw in his eyes and instead the affection there.
“Because, it will be more believable coming from them than it would be coming from me” Mark said and he stood up
indicating to the guard standing at the door he came through.
“Ok. Thank you.” Alex said softly looking down at the address before putting it in her pocket and standing also.
“Don’t thank me yet.” Was all Mark said before he was lead out of the room by the guard.
Alex also was lead out of the room and after collecting her valuables at the front gate she then went out and got
in her car and headed back towards to the town she would be staying in. She drove without the radio and without
thought and without feeling.
She didn’t know what to think, the eyes of the man that had killed the only parents she knew was already haunting
her, they was so like her own and yet different. She didn’t know how to feel about the address she was given. She
didn’t know how to feel about anything thing she had just been told, but deep down she believed that the man did
kill her ‘parents’ for her biological mother.
She was saddened suddenly by the fact that she would never get to meet her real mother, and she had no idea who
her real father was. She wondered then what her real mother was like, to have adopted her out like that didn’t
make Alex feel to good about the thought of her. But she didn’t want to judge so early, she didn’t want to feel
so wretched either but she did.
That thought made its self prominent and she decided to pull over just 15 minutes out of the town she was staying
in for the case to get a drink and stretch her legs. She pulled over and sat in her car for a moment taking a few
deep breaths to calm herself down as she was yet again feeling somewhat emotional.
Finally feeling a bit better she climbed out of the car and went and purchased herself a drink and one of her favourite
chocolate bars. Paying for them she smiled at the cashier and was on her way out the door when she ran strait into
someone on there way in the door. She ran into them with such force she had to reach out and grab there arm or
fall over on her ass.
“Oh my god, I'm so sorry.” Alex stammered as she stumbled before looking up into the familiar face.
“Why Miss Moss, fancy ‘bumping’ into you here.” Lily said grinning at the slightly shorter woman who still had
hold of her arm.
“God, I feel like such a fool Ms. Granger.” Alex blushed a little as she looked at the other woman gentle face.
“Hey no problems, I was kind of hoping to run into you again at some point anyway.” Lily said smiling broadly at
the Agent.
“Oh, what for?” Alex was curious strait away, she had instantly been attracted to the woman the moment she had
noticed her standing behind her.
“Wait for me to grab my stuff?” Lily asked and put her hand over the smaller one that was still on her arm.
Alex blushed then as she realised she was still touching Ms. Granger and she slid her hand from the arm and stepped
away from her nodding before stepping past her and finding a bench outside the store to sit on and wait.
She didn’t have to wait long before Lily came back out of the shop and sat down on the bench beside her and put
her grocery between her feet before she smiled again at Alex who was chewing a piece of chocolate.
“Ok so I wanted to ‘bump’ into you so to speak, because, well I'm going to be blunt with you. I would like to get
to know you and by this I mean I would like to ask you to have dinner with me.” Lily said in what seemed like the
one breath and it took Alex listening intently to catch all the words.
“When you say dinner…. What do you mean exactly?” Alex asked trying not to choke on the chocolate she was chewing
on.
“I mean a date Alex. I understand if your not into that… you know seeing as we are both women, but I have to try.”
Lily said as her face got redder and redder with each word.
“Oh… ok well sure. When?” Alex smiled gently at Lily and wasn’t surprised to see the sudden desire flare up in
her eyes.
“I hate you eyes.” Lily blurted as she tried to say something completely different.
“No you don’t, no one hates them… except perhaps me.” Alex frowned at this thought.
She had to admit it was her eyes that people were attracted to not so much her personality and it surely irritated
her. She did sometimes enjoy seeing the affect her eyes had on a person but she didn’t always want to see it but
that was apparently how it was going to be.
“They are beautiful, so strange and… deep. Anyways enough about your eyes, how about tomorrow night, if you tell
me where your staying I will pick you up at 7 and take you somewhere nice.” Lily said grinning and wiggling her
eyebrows making Alex giggle.
“Alright sounds good to me, but do you think I could get your number. I wouldn’t worry about it but I'm here on
work and if something comes up I would hate for you to turn up and me not be there.” Alex said taking another small
bite of her chocolate bar.
“Good idea, I'm glad I thought of it.” Lily said making Alex giggle again as she reached into her purse and pulled
out a card.
“You’re a florist, and it’s a wonder we haven’t met sooner, you live in my city apparently.” Alex read the card
Lily had handed her before she looked back up at her.
“I am a florist and correct me if I'm wrong but you don’t strike me as the flower type, so its no surprise really.”
Lily smiled softly at Alex and was a little surprised to see desire flare into the violet eyes.
“You have a nice smile. Anyways I should be getting back and check up on the rest of the team, I will see you tomorrow,
and hey do me a favour and stay away from any murderers you might know. I would hate to have said yes to you for
nothing.” Alex joked lightly about the reason she was in this state.
“Hey I most certainly will no doubt about that, I'm like… murderer repellent they don’t come anywhere near me.”
Lily said chuckling along with Alex.
They both moved to there cars and drove off, Alex going first to the Station and working a little more on her Profile
as she scanned some more information she had been given on the other cases. Alex’s team wasn’t usually called in
on cases like this unless there was no leads for the local police to go on. They hadn’t had any luck catching the
unsub and so when the 4th victim was found they called in Alex’s team.
Alex scanned through the information, the 4 victims were all in there late 20’s and they all had blue eyes and
brunette mid length hair, they all had similar features and builds. Most importantly considering Alex’s profile
the women were all looking into pregnancy by insemination.
At this realisation Alex left the room and found one of the constables that had just started his graveyard shift.
She walked up to him and smiled greeting him warmly and quietly as he was on the phone when she got there, she
stood back a few paces and waited for the mans phone call to be over before she approached him again.
“Constable Meyers, would you mind helping me out a little bit?” Alex asked politely smiling at the man that was
easily 5 years younger then herself.
“Of course, any way I can Ma’am. What do you need?” Meyers asked giving her his undivided attention.
“Do you think you could chase up some records from any private hospitals or practices with any employers that is
around his mid 20’s to early 30’s that could possibly have access to files regarding insemination and get those
back to me ASAP?” Alex put her serious voice on knowing it commanded authority and that that would be the best
way to deal with the younger man who looked at her boldly with lust on his face.
“Of course, ah… it may not be until morning that I get any results.” The constable looked a little worried that
Alex might tell him to do it now and do it quickly.
“That’s alright, I was about to clock out anyways I know it is late.” Alex moved away from the desk and was heading
back to the room assigned to the Federal Agents for the case when Meyers spoke again.
“Ah, Excuse me Miss, I know it’s a bit forward but I was thinking perhaps you and I could get coffee or something
in the morning?” Alex couldn’t help but admire the mans courage, he didn’t stammer once.
“Ah, Meyers sorry, I’m seeing someone.” She wasn’t exactly lying, she did intend to see more of Lily if she could
help it.
“Oh, well ok then, at least I can say I tried.” Meyers said and Alex frowned a little at the way he said it, like
he was expecting that answer.
“See you in the morning.” Alex said and left the building getting once again in her car and driving to the hotel
she was to be staying in.
That night Alex got very little sleep as she couldn’t get the words of Mark Turner out of her mind, and then there
was the indecision that plagued her about going to see the people at the address Mark had given her. Did she really
want the answer he said they could give her? Why didn’t she just go back to him, she could spin some story that
she had gone to see the people and they kicked her out on her ear or something. Lies. Alex disliked dishonesty
but she was so plagued about what to do regarding answers about the life she thought she knew.
She was startled mid thought by the sound of the alarm clock at her bedside. 5:30 AM. With not a wink of sleep
to make her feel better she dragged herself out of her bed and showered before dressing. She decided she would
walk to the station and pick up a coffee on her way to wake her up.
At the station she found the records she had asked Meyers for already at the desk where she had been looking over
the information regarding the cases last night. She was still scanning through them when the rest of her team came
in as a small group indicating that they had arrived together.
“Moss, you been here all night?” Jameson asking his voice a little stern telling her he assumed she had been there
all night.
“No Boss, but I couldn’t sleep so I came in early, only been here 40 minutes.” Alex inwardly rolled her eyes at
her boss’ assumption.
“Oh, well what have you come up with? What are these?” Jameson indicated the records from the doctors that dealt
with insemination.
“Hospital employee records from the hospitals that our victims went too when they decided they wanted to get pregnant
through insemination.” Alex explained in brief looking over one of the files.
“Why do you have those?” Fips sat down at the desk taking a mouthful of his coffee.
“Because I'm sure our unsub is here somewhere. See what I have deduced so far is that the unsub is in fact a man
in his mid 20’s to early 30’s, he was most probably the victim of childhood abuse, he may have been beaten and
I am almost certain that it was a result of his birth killing his mother.” Alex had sat the record down now and
looked at the rest of the team as she spoke.
“Alright, what tells you this? And if that is the case why does he rape his victims?” Fletcher was the next to
voice question.
“Well, the first thing is the splitting apart of the victims, this to me indicates that his mother did in fact
die during labour and that he was in fact blamed for her death, that is also why I think he was the victim of abuse
and assault as a child and an early teen.” Alex explained all this in her professional voice and she inwardly sighed
when she saw speculation on there faces.
“And the rape, how do you explain that?” Casey was curious but she knew they was all just trying to find a hole
in her profile, they always did this.
“The rape, well they are looking to get pregnant are they, so for him I believe that he is raping them to signify
to himself that they are pregnant and then he splits them apart, as a means to exactly what he was accused of doing
when he was born, if you noticed which I'm sure none of you did, the deaths are all nine months apart.” Alex finished
with the information and went back to reading through the record she had open.
“Huh. So all this leads you to believe that the unsub is one of these?” Jameson said once again indicating the
files.
“Yes and no, what really made my mind was the fact that all 4 victims had been to see doctors about insemination,
all the same doctor and they all had the same pamphlets.” Alex said pushing one of the pamphlets across the table.
“Alright you lot you all know what your looking for so get to it, there's a lot of folders there.” Jameson said
and no one hesitated to grab some of the files and start reading through them.
After an hour they had narrowed it down to 12 possibilities and then they all got down to discussing them and trying
to narrow it down further, this took a lot of the day and it was close to 5 PM when Jameson told everyone they
could have the night off and that they would chase up there new leads in the morning.
Through out the day phone calls had been made in regard to doctors informing the Agents of any blue eyed brunettes
looking into insemination. The doctors were more then willing to help and Alex smiled at the politeness of some
of them. She was walking back to the hotel thinking about the days events when she remembered her dinner plans
for the night.
Cursing she picked up her pace a little and made it to the hotel in record time, she showered again and fussed
through the few clothes she had bought with her before she got dressed, she didn’t have any nice clothes with her
as she hadn’t intended to meet any possible suitors and be going out so she picked one of the ladies pants suits
she had bought with her and dressed quickly before sitting around on her bed, she still had an hour to go and she
decided to just read the news paper she had picked up on the way to her room.
It was an hour later when Alex was gently shaken awake and she looked up to see Lily’s gentle face looking down
at her, she glanced around for a moment unaware of where she was before she realised she had actually fallen asleep.
She sat up and rubbed her face before cursing.
“Damnit, what time is it, I'm so sorry.” Alex said looking at the clock that said 7:11 PM.
“Hey it’s ok. We can reschedule if you like, you look beat.” Lily said gently as she stepped away from the bed
a little bit.
“No I don’t want that… I'm sorry I really didn’t mean to fall asleep I guess I was just more tired then I thought.”
Alex muttered the end of her statement frowning a little.
“Why so tired, are they working you too hard?” Lily moved over to the beside table and picked up the room service
menu and looking at it.
“No I was working me too hard, and I couldn’t sleep last night.” Alex was still frowning.
“Ah, so what ever bothered you so much yesterday was still bothering you last night?” How had Lily known something
was bothering her yesterday?
“Yeah. So where are we going?” Alex asked trying to get the conversation away from where it was going.
“No where. You still seem to want to have dinner with me but your beat so why not just eat here? I can pay.” Lily
smiled at the slightly smaller woman still sitting on the bed.
“Are you sure? I don’t want to ruin your night.” Alex asked feeling bad all the sudden.
“For the sake of sounding cheesey if I'm with you its not ruined. So tell me, are you a cat person or a dog person?”
Lily grinned as she asked the question.
“Neither, I prefer cows.” Alex joked the mood lightening already and she was glad.
“Cows! Ugh smelly beasts they are.” Lily said feigning disgust.
“Yeah but useful, we wouldn’t have milk or steak with out them! No I really don’t have a preference, I have had
both cats and dogs in the past, nothing at present how ever.” Alex became serious again and looked at the menu
Lily had just passed her.
They sat and talked and ate for a while getting to know one another in a comfortable setting, they was both sitting
on the bed one at each end and they was both giggling at one and other’s silly answers. The evening went on and
Alex forgot all about sleep as they talked and got to know some rather intimate things about one another.
“So have you had many relationships?” Lily asked suddenly and Alex giggled inwardly.
“Actually no, I had one 7 month fling through college and then after that I never really worried about dating.”
Alex answered honestly.
“Oh just a bunch of random sex since then then hm?” Lily was trying to sound nonchalant about it but on the inside
she was incredibly curious and for some reason hoped Alex wasn’t that type.
“Yeah all the time… Actually no, I wasn’t much for the whole random one night stands. Satisfied?” Alex raised an
eyebrow questioningly as she grinned at her date.
“I wouldn’t say satisfied but that will do on that subject. What upset you so much yesterday?” Lily asked and all
humour drained from Alex’s face.
“Do you really want to know?” Alex asked honestly prepared to tell Lily.
“Are you worried that your going to run me off already? I want to know everything about you Alex, and it already
bothers me when something is bothering you.” Lily was serious now and she answered honestly, the statement touched
a cord in Alex’s heart and she felt herself warming and possibly falling in love with this woman already.
“Well when you asked about the house and I said it reminded me of my childhood home, it got me thinking about my
childhood. See when I was 12 my parents were murdered while I was at school. Well I went to see the murderer yesterday
and he told me some unsettling things, but its his eyes that haunt me.” Alex spoke quietly, her voice catching
at the end and causing her to take deep breaths to keep herself composed.
“His eyes? What’s so haunting about them.” Lily inquired gently, she had reached over and taken Alex’s hand and
she now held it between them.
“They look like mine, only they are more of a dark blue almost purple then an actual violet. He told me the people
I called my parents weren’t actually my parents and he gave me this.” Alex said reaching with her free hand to
the card with the address on it and handing it to Lily.
“What is this?” Lily read the address before looking up at Alex inquiringly.
“Apparently that is where I will get all my answers but I'm not sure if I have the courage to go there and see
these people.” Alex said honestly.
“Well sweetie, if you decide you want to go and need some support, I will go with you no problem.” Lily smiled
gently and with the combination of honesty and sincerity in the statement and Lily’s face Alex melted.
She didn’t say anything, she simply leaned forward and gently kissed Lily on the mouth before leaning back and
smiling at her. She felt warm all over and the heat was coming from Lily she knew. She smiled and leaned further
back still looking at Lily’s face. There wasn’t lust or desire on her face but happiness and contentment and it
only made Alex warmer.
“I don’t mean to come across forwardly, but would you stay with me tonight, we don’t have to do anything, I just
think I would be able to sleep with you hear. You have such a calming personality.” Alex asked and blushed a little,
Lily chuckled.
“Sure, but what time is your alarm set for, I have to work tomorrow I have a wedding reception to go and pretty
up with all my flowers.” Lily said as her free hand went to Alex’s face and she brushed her fingers gently over
the slightly stained cheeks.
“It’s set for 5:30 but if that is too early I can change it.” Alex leaned her face into her dates hand as she spoke.
“Good god 5:30?!” Lily exclaimed as she brushed her thumb across Alex’s cheek.
“Your right, how about 6:30?” Alex asked giggling and moving away from the warm touch reached and grabbed the clock.
“Sounds a lot more reasonable.” Lily said and she dropped Alex’s other hand so she could get off the bed and put
the rubbish in a small trash can by the door before she slipped into the bathroom.
Alex changed the alarm and changed into some more comfortable clothes that consisted of briefs and a too big tee
shirt. She grabbed the spare clean one she had and sat it on the bed when Lily came back into the room, she indicated
it and suggest Lily change into and then sat back down on the bed.
Lily did change into the shirt, she grinned cheekily at Alex before she began to undress in front of her and perversely
Alex watched a grin coming to her own face. She watched as Lily unbuttoned her shirt and let it drop to the floor
before she turned around to undo her bra and let it drop to the floor. Alex stared at the back, the muscles there
were defined but not unflatteringly so.
“Do you work out?” Alex blurted as she looked at the strong back.
Lily giggled as she pulled the shirt over her head and then took her jeans off before she answered as she walked
over to the bed.
“No, the muscles come from shovelling soil and lifting heavy boxes of seeds for the past 16 years.” Lily said as
she pulled Alex off the bed and pulled the sheets back before sliding into them and grinning up at Alex.
“I never asked how old you are.” Alex said sliding into the bed and effectively into Lily’s arms.
“29 in 2 months. And yourself?” Lily asked as she moved her arms to more comfortable places for both of them, thusly
one ended up squished between there bodies and the other over Alex’s waist.
“26 in 5.” Alex said as she failed to stifle a yawn.
“Go to sleep, I will see you in the morning, and don’t worry I will still be here.” Lily snuggled a little closer
to Alex and closed her own eyes.
“Good.” Alex muttered before she fell asleep rather suddenly.
Alex woke with such a start when the alarm sounded that she rolled right out of Lily’s arms and off the bed and
burst into laughter. She rolled onto her back still giggling when she heard the alarm stop and looked up to see
a rather sleepy looking Lily staring down at her with an amused grin on her face.
“Do you always wake up with so much energy?” Lily asked raising an eyebrow.
“Actually no. But then I don’t usually sleep that well either.” Alex sat forward and pecked Lily on the cheek rather
shyly.
“You really don’t date do you, your so shy. It’s cute.” Lily sat up on the bed and twisted dropping her legs off
the side.
“Cute? No way, nothing about me is cute.” Alex scowled rather seriously and it made Lily laugh.
“Absolutely adorably cute.” Lily giggled as the scowl darkened.
“Not a good start Lily, your ruining the relationship already.” Alex sounded rather stern but her face was betraying
the humour behind the tone.
“Is that what this is then? A relationship. Are you sure?” Lily was suddenly serious.
“Yes I think so, if you want it to be.” Alex had gone shy again and her voice was hardly above a whisper.
“Cute.” Was all Lily before she bent down and kissed Alex firmly on the mouth.
Alex responded almost instantly and moved her hand to the blondes cheek as she leaned forward a little more. Lily
broke the kiss before it could become something else and she stepped over Alex and went into the bathroom, a smile
on her face.
“Yeah I think that is what I want it to be.” Lily called from the bathroom where Alex heard the shower water start
to run.
“You think?” Alex called back deciding to find her clothes for the day.
“You’s an all or nothin’ kinda gal ain't ya.” Lily called back in a very southern accent that made Alex laugh out
loud.
“Yes.” Alex called back after she stopped laughing.
“Well yes this this is a relationship, I mean we live in the same city right?” Lily stepped out of the bathroom
with just a towel wrapped about her and Alex found her gaze drawn to her legs.
“Wow, hot legs.” Alex blurted out before she could censure her thoughts.
“You’re a legs girl, lucky for me.” Lily giggled.
“Meet me for lunch today?”
“I am and sure so long as I can get the break from work, we are trying to catch a murderer after all.” Alex said
pulling her gaze from Lily’s legs to her face.
“Ok well, give me your number and you have mine, I can call you later and we can figure it out hm?” Lily said smiling
at the lust in Alex’s eyes.
“Sounds good to me.” Alex moved over to the bedside table and grabbed her notebook and a pen and wrote her number
for Lily.
Lily watched Alex bending over the bedside table and smiled as her own eyes went from a decent view to a perverse
one of Alex’s shapely behind. She was so engrossed in her perverse little fantasy that had started in her mind
the moment her eyes rested on the firm ass that she didn’t notice Alex looking back at her over her shoulder.
“You’re an ass girl? Lucky me.” Alex said and giggled when Lily jumped slightly startled.
“Yeah that’s embarrassing.” Lily said as she blushed and cleared her throat.
Alex laughed and tore the piece of paper she had been writing on from the book and handed it to Lily.
“That has my home address on it as well as my number. I’m going to shower are you leaving or are you going to wait
for me?” Alex grabbed her clothes off the bed as she spoke.
“I’ll walk you down stairs, hurry along now.” Lily slapped Alex playfully on the butt as she walked past and then
sat down on the bed again.
Alex giggled at the slap and went and showered, 15 minutes later she walked out of the bathroom fully dressed and
she grabbed her cell and the shoulder bag she carried her files in and smiled at Lily who had dozed off to sleep
on the bed.
“Lily, Sweetie wake up.” Alex gently shook Lily’s shoulder and she woke up and smiled sleepily.
“Sorry I didn’t mean to doze off, I'm used to more sleep then that.” Lily apologised as she swung her legs off
the bed and stood up.
“Yeah its ok you can get more tonight I wont keep you up with my nonsense.” Alex moved to the door as she spoke,
Lily close behind her.
“It’s not nonsense you know, things like that are good to be talked about and I honestly don’t mind. I don’t mean
to make little of your situation but after 16 years of weddings and funerals, well your business is exciting.”
Lily shrugged and stepped out of the room in front of Alex when she opened the door.
Alex pulled the door shut and turned to her girlfriend about to say something when she was interrupted by Fips.
“Moss, What is the florist doing here so early?” Fips sounded suspicious and when Alex turned to look at him she
saw that Casey and Fletcher was with him, apparently on there way to see if she had left already.
Alex was lost for words, she opened her mouth to say something but having nothing to say she closed it. She had
never let on about her being a lesbian to her coworkers and she had never flaunted relationships. Now it seemed
she was busted and she didn’t know what to say.
“Actually Alex and I are seeing each other, and before you jump to conclusions, yes I did stay the night with her,
but no we didn’t ‘sleep’ together, she just wanted the company.” Lily spoke firmly to the Agents now standing a
few paces in front of her and Alex.
“Wow Moss, I had no idea you was a… a…” Casey didn’t seem to know what to say and he floundered with his sentence.
“That I'm a lesbian. Well I am not that its really any of your business, I prefer to keep my personal life… personal.”
Alex sounded a little haughty as she spoke to her co-workers.
“And so you should. Hello miss, I’m Jim Jameson, Alex’s boss.” Jameson had heard Alex’s last statement as he had
come down the steps and he strode forwards and introduced himself to Lily.
“Lily Granger, Nice to meet you.” Lily shook Jameson’s man and then as gestured by Jameson she and Alex started
for the elevator.
“Do any of you have a problem with Alex’s sexuality?” Jameson asked effectively stopping Alex on her way to the
elevator.
“Oh Christ, like it wasn’t bad enough to start with.” Alex whispered to Lily.
“Come on its not that bad, that’s the thing about secrets, people can only keep them for so long.” Lily tried to
make Alex feel better.
“No, not at all, it explains a lot of thing, like why she refused to go out with Fips.” Fletcher answered nudging
Fips in the ribs who scowled back.
“Joy.” Alex whispered in an exasperated tone.
Lily giggled and grabbed her hand and tugged her into the elevator that had just arrived empty on there floor.
She reached forward and stopped the doors closing and waited for the rest of Alex’s team.
Once all on the lift they made small talk about the case never saying anything that would let anything out to Lily
and she whispered in Alex’s ear about how subtle the rest of the team was being and effectively made Alex laugh.
They reached the ground floor and the rest of the team went to there cars and Alex walked Lily to her car.
“So I will call you at around 11 and tell you what the deal is if that’s ok.” Alex said when they got to the car.
“Sounds good to me I shouldn’t be busy.” Lily said a sultry look on her face as she moved a little closer to Alex.
“You cant look at me like that.” Alex said gently and feeling a little sexy she filled the gap between herself
and Lily leaning into the slightly taller woman.
“Like what?” Lily’s voice was low and it melted Alex. She put her hand on Alex’s cheek and leaned in a little bit.
“You know.” Alex breathed and leaned towards Lily and was about to kiss her when lily pulled away laughing and
Alex almost fell over when Lily stepped back a little.
“Oh my god you tease!” Alex glared at Lily seriously but moments later a grinned formed on her face at the playful
mood Lily seemed to be in.
“I am but you like it.” Lily said leaning against her car and putting her hands on Alex’s hips tugging her closer.
“I do but I should be getting to work Lily.” Alex again leaned into Lily even though she was talking about leaving.
“Ok, let me kiss you for real first.” Lily leaned in again but this time didn’t stop as she caught Alex’s mouth
with her own.
There lips met and locked and they kiss gently at first but it gradually became more insistent. Alex had just put
her arms around Lily’s neck when suddenly there was a loud sound close beside them. They broke apart startled and
looked at the glass bottle that had just shattered beside them.
“Go kill yourselves stupid dykes!” A young man called from a pick up truck that drove past them.
Lily was about to yell something back when Alex put her hand on Lily’s stomach and shook her head.
“Don’t bother Lil, people like that aren’t worth the waste of breath.” Alex said almost sadly but then surprised
Lily by grinning.
“You’re a good kisser by the way.”
Lily smiled at the comment and pecked Alex’s lips but she wasn’t ok with the young man that pelted them with a
bottle and Alex could see that.
“Lily seriously, it was just some stupid kid that doesn’t have an idea about anything then the strait life. Don’t
let it upset you.” Alex’s hand was still on Lily’s stomach and she pushed a little harder so Lily would look back
at her.
“Alright, alright. I will see you for lunch I hope.” Lily said this time smiling in earnest.
“Yeah I hope so too but you wont be upset if I have to work will you?” Alex asked a little nervously.
“Of course not silly. Your trying to catch a murderer I understand.” Lily said stepping away from Alex and unlocking
her car.
“Your wonderful. I will speak to you later Lil, stay safe.” Alex stepped away as well and started for her own car.
“You too and catch that killer.” Lily called after her.
Alex waved to Lily over her shoulder and jogged the few yards to her car. Climbing in she drove to work thinking
not of the case but of the annoyance she was sure to suffer now her colleagues knew she was gay.
On arriving at the station no one said anything and the morning started with Alex doing more work on her profile
which consisted of looking through all the files of the previous cases. She was just about to call Lily to tell
her she couldn’t get away when her phone started to ring and she smiled at the name that blinked on the screen.
“Hey Lily I was just about to call you. Its not good news I'm afraid.” Alex was a little sad she had ruined Lily’s
plans for a first date due to being tired and now they couldn’t have lunch together.
“Oh, lame. Any chance I could come in and see you, I could bring you and the rest of the team coffee?” Lily asked
her voice a little bubbly and Alex smiled at her enthusiasm.
“I don’t see that being a problem, bring the receipt I will make these guys pay you back, 6 plus yourself. How
long will you be?” Alex had to put effort into concealing her own enthusiasm.
It had been a long time since Alex had been in a relationship and she had known when she was in her last relationship
that she wasn’t in love. She had argued that she didn’t believe in love in this day and age but now she was beginning
to think she may have to rethink that as she always seemed to feel butterfly wings brushing against her insides
when Lily was mentioned or thought of.
“No problem I will be over as soon as I can get coffee, do they have any preferences?” Lily asked, Alex could tell
she was walking into the shop already cause she could hear the voices of people calling out about coffee through
the speaker of her phone.
She told Lily every ones preference when it came to coffee and then hung the phone and went to the front office
in the police station and told the officer there to let Lily through when she arrived. She then returned to her
desk in the room that was designated for the Agents to work in.
Alex was reading through a file when the rest of her team came back in from talking to some of the local police
about old files that might help. She looked up at them but they all seemed too busy in there own discussions to
pay her any attention so shaking her head slightly she jotted down a few notes and then went back to reading a
file on one of the few people that were most likely to be suspects.
Alex was stilling looking through the file when she felt a warmth that she already knew so well right behind her,
she looked over her shoulder and smiled at the tall blonde who reached past her and sat the coffees on the table
where there was space. None of Alex’s co-workers had noticed Lily so Lily took the opportunity to peck Alex on
the lips.
“Is that one of the suspects, I met him a few months ago at a wedding, kind of a weird kid, real edgy like he’s
afraid he is going to get hit or something.” Lily said glancing at the open file in front of Alex.
“You know him? What can you tell me about him? And which ones mine?” Alex asked the questions as she glanced at
the coffees and pulled the picture out of the file and handed it to Lily for a better look.
“That one in the left bottom corner, I named the others.” Lily said gesturing the coffees as she looked at the
photo.
Alex took the coffee and glanced at Lily before she looked at the rest of her team, still none of them had noticed
Lily was there and she almost didn’t want to draw attention to herself and her girlfriend. Deciding she was being
a fool she glanced at the coffees against before turning fully towards the others.
“Hey you guys, close your mouths, Lily brought you coffee, and for those of you who haven’t met her, this is Lily
Granger.” Alex gestured first the coffees and then the woman standing behind her looking at a photo.
“Hey guys, Alex told me how you like your coffee so if its wrong its her fault.” Lily looked up from the photo
and smiled at everyone.
“She’s a keeper Kid.” Jameson was the first to walk over to get his coffee and after smiling and thanking Lily
he had addressed Alex.
“Yeah I reckon she is.” Alex said leaning back a little as Lily reached past her and looked at the name on the
file.
“Yeah that’s definitely the guy I met at that wedding, he was there with his sister.” Lily stated again as she
sat the photo down on the open file.
“What can you tell me about him?” Alex asked and she gestured the chair next to her which Lily took willingly.
“Well like I said, he looked kind of shifty, he kept to himself, stared at a couple of the brides maids a bit.
Really to me he seemed like one of those people that was paranoid about getting punched in the face. He jumped
at every noise and he only seemed comfortable when his sister was with him. They was both a bit weird.” Lily explained
taking her own coffee and sipping it.
“Do you remember what his sister’s name was?” Alex was curious and her brow had furrowed like it did so often when
she worked.
“Sorry hun, I really don’t remember it was months ago.”
“Damn, it makes me think, would you say that they was the same age?”
“Twins? Sure it was possible, they both looked young, about your age maybe a year or two younger.”
“That puts them about 23-24. Two people, I never thought of that.” Alex frowned and looked over her profile.
“Boss, did we bring in Will Mason?”
“No he was next on our list why, what you got?” Jameson asked turning from his other co-workers to listen to Alex.
“Well I was thinking about something Lily just said, she said he has a sister and that they are about the same
age, pretty young. Well, what if they helped one another.” Alex explained, imploring her boss to see the angle
she was going with.
“Well how do you mean exactly, there was only really evidence of the man.” Jameson said now thinking hard himself.
“Right there was but that was only because of the rape. But with they are twins and they are sadistically re-enacting
there mothers death, well the man rapes her, covering conception. Well if they are twins, and the daughter was
born last…” Alex trailed off now.
“You think it’s the sister that does the actual killing, but what do they use, its so brutal?” Jameson was thinking
himself but he was pulling up blanks.
“It would explain, and there’s no saying that the brother didn’t help with the splitting, it has to take a lot
to do that.” Alex had forgotten about Lily but soon remembered she was there when she heard her make a sound.
“You know it’s a little bit much for me, the splitting, and I am trying so hard not to look at the pictures on
the board over there. But here’s a thought for you guys, what about those things they use to pry jammed car doors
open? Jaws of Life or what ever they are called.” Lily spoke softly at first and then a little louder as she mentioned
the tool.
Alex didn’t say anything, she leaned forward and kissed Lily hard on the mouth right there in front of everyone,
and yes, everyone was now looking there way as they was discussing the case. Lily was a little dumb founded and
didn’t kiss Alex back, not that she would have had the chance as the kiss though hard was brief.
“Lily you’re a genius, I don’t know how none of us thought about it!” Alex was visibly excited now that they had
a possible murder weapon.
“Wow, Moss that’s the first time I have seen you be anything other then a hard ass.” Fips said staring at Alex.
“Yeah, Yeah. Boss I think someone should go over and get that guy, and his sister too I have a feeling they will
both be there, and someone should go down to the local fire station and look at some Jaws of Life.” Alex had rolled
her eyes at Fips before she became all business again.
“Alright, Fletcher, Casey, You guys go and bring these kids in, Fips you better go with them. Moss you would probably
be the best to go look at the tool, you could take your lady with you she looks like she could use some fresh air.”
Jameson barked out the first of his orders but spoke softer to Alex as he gestured Lily who was looking a little
pale despite the slight flush on her cheeks.
“Sorry Lily, I should have thought before I got all Profiler on you. You didn’t need to hear that.” Alex apologised
to Lily.
“Oh hearing it isn’t the problem, it’s being more like a cat when curiosity is involved that is the problem.” Lily
pointed to the whiteboard with the photos on it as she spoke.
“Oh, sorry.” Alex wasn’t sure what else to say, she was never affected by the pictures she had seen.
“It’s fine, I can see you can handle it so I have to do you better and handle it as well, maybe I can make a joke
about it in like…. 10 minutes.” Lily grinned at Alex.
Alex laughed and took her hand pulling her to her feet and they left the station going down to Alex’s car and driving
out the police station. They pulled up and finished the dregs of there coffee before getting out of the car and
walking over to the main entrance to the fire house. They went in a bit and encountered a few men throwing a football
back and forth.
“How may we help you ladies?” One of the men asked when he and his companions noticed them.
“I’m Agent Moss I'm with the FBI this is Lily Granger, I was wondering if you guys could show me some Jaws of Life.”
Alex said getting down to business.
“Sure right this way.” The man that first spoke said and he lead the two women to the largest fire engine and opened
on of the smaller compartments at its side revealing tools, one caught Alex's eye but it was too big to be carried
around too much.
The man pulled out the spreaders and showed them to the two women, he explained briefly that you can get smaller
ones that are easier to carry around and that people that ‘do up’ cars are usually the ones that have the smaller
ones to pry jammed doors.
“Babe, I shouldn’t ask, but are the women dead or alive when they’re…” Lily trailed off knowing Alex knew what
she was talking about.
“I could lie to you, but… Evidence shows they are alive and that this is what kills them. I’m sorry maybe I shouldn’t
have bought you.” Alex answered and she looked at Lily apologetically.
“Hey it’s ok, I get to see first hand what you do. I don’t get how you can be so detached though.” Lily frowned
a little as she said this.
Alex sighed and looked away from Lily, she couldn’t explain it, she has never been able to explain it, not so people
could understand. She was worried this was going to cause her a problem already in her new relationship.
“Don’t look sad, if you cant explain it then that’s fine, if you don’t want to… well that’s ok as well, your job
isn’t that much of a thing that I'm going to leave you because of how you do it.” Lily grabbed Alex’s hand when
she saw her look away and kissed her knuckles gently.
“Your amazing you know that.” Alex smiled at Lily and pecked her on the cheek, they had been speaking quietly as
they was leaving the station but there actions were enough to inform the men watching them that they was together.
“Well shit, a couple of little muff divers in our fire house boys would you look at that.” The sentence reached
Alex and Lily’s ears and the tone was enough to tell them that there was possibly trouble on its way.
“There cops man, don’t fuck with them they will charge you or something.” One of the men said to the one that had
spoke.
“Nah, wouldn’t give them a chance, sew there mouths man, they couldn’t talk or eat each other then.” The man said
as he stood up and approached Alex and Lily.
“Back off Sir.” Alex said sternly but the man wasn’t deterred.
“Are you talking to me you little bitch.” The man didn’t say it as a question and Alex knew he wouldn’t be deterred
so easily.
“You make me sick you do. God created men and women for a reason, if he wanted us to run around fucking the same
sex we would all be men or women not both. Your unnatural.” The man was only a few meters away now and his face
was a mask of fury as he spoke.
“Back off!” Alex said louder, she stepped back crowding Lily with her slightly smaller body and forcing her back
too.
“Look guys, they're shit scared. They should be too, stupid bitches.” The man called back over his shoulder at
the others.
“You know, Christians keep saying god created us, well you know if he created us, he did as we are. Perhaps homos
are part of his plan you know, to slow down over populating.” Lily said trying to reason with the man.
“Shut your mouth, god ain’t stupid, he just messed up some where when he made people like you. Your freaks, unnatural
and you should be culled like they did the Indians when we settled here, they was unnatural as well.” The man spat
the words out at Lily and stepped forward quicker then Alex expected and knocked them both backwards and they fell
to the floor.
Alex didn’t feel Lily grab her gun from the holster but she knew that is what had happened when the advancing man
stood frozen a pace away from them glaring down at them. Alex didn’t think twice she just knew she needed to get
back on her feet so she wasn’t so vulnerable.
During her career Alex had been attacked only a few times from guilty people that were frightened of what was going
to happen to them when they was caught. They were like lions in pinned in a corner, unpredictable. Some sat down
and resigned but some lashed out and attacked.
Alex twisted from her position on the ground between Lily’s legs and got to her feet before stepping behind Lily
and helping her to her feet. She didn’t try to take the gun that Lily was pointing at the mans chest she simply
watched the man and readied herself to pull Lily out of the way in case he attacked. She backed up slowly taking
Lily with her and soon they was far enough away that Alex felt safe enough to hurry her movements more.
“You wouldn’t shoot me, you don’t have it in you, your just some dumb bitch.” The man said finally getting his
balls back.
“Try me asshole, there isn’t nothing I hate more then people attacking mine and threatening to hurt them, and this,”
She indicated Alex with her free hand, “Is mine.”
“What ever, your not worth the effort anyways.” The man said finally giving in, he relaxed his stance and stepped
back.
Lily moved them putting the gun in the band of her jeans at her back and she turned to Alex and taking her hand
they made a hasty exit of the fire house and got to the car in record time. Neither of them spoke until they was
in the car driving back to the station.
“Lily are you ok?” Alex asked looking from the road to her brooding girlfriends face.
“Fine.” Was Lily’s short reply.
They didn’t speak again until they was back at the station and Alex didn’t know what to say, she had never been
in a situation like that and it rattled her more then anything ever had and it wasn’t the threat to her life that
did it, it was the threat to Lily’s. With that realization Alex knew she was already irrevocably in love with Lily.
They went back into the room that had been designated for the case and Jameson looked from Lily to Alex and back
again before he spoke.
“What happened to you too, you look forlorn. Alex I have never seen you so rattled.”
“Boss, we went down and checked out the Jaws of Life, very likely that that was the weapon used.” Alex said not
answering the question.
“Right, then what happened? I know you Moss, nothing case related rattles you this much, tell me.” Jameson demanded
the answer.
“Well Boss, the men down there, they ah…”
“They are massive fucking Homophobes and dangerous is what they are. One of them attacked us, he didn’t actually
do anything to us but I would hate to think what he would have done if the gun hadn’t been pulled.” Lily interrupted
Alex and with almost savage tone told Jameson what happened.
“Shit, Alex you had to pull your gun?” Jameson asked his face now showing anger.
“No, I didn’t even think of it, my mind went blank for the first time in my life and I forgot all about having
a gun. Lily pulled it on him.” Alex answered honestly and she glanced from Jameson to Lily.
“Where’s the gun now, I notice it isn’t in your holster?” Jameson said glancing at Alex’s empty hip holster.
“Lily has it in her waist band, I know I should have got it back but I couldn’t think about it, that has never
happened to me.” Alex said in a small voice.
“That is what happens when your open about your relationship when you’re a dyke.” Lily said a little harshly.
“Well I wouldn’t know would I, I have been in one relationship my entire life and we wasn’t open about it.” Alex
was mildly frustrated at how Lily was speaking to her.
“What, do you want me to keep us a secret or something?” Lily asked in a bit of a mad voice.
“No Lily I don’t want that, I want you to bear with me when I blank next time this happens, and I want you to not
be so upset about it.” Alex was close to tears at the thought that she had upset Lily and she didn’t like it.
Lily saw the tears well up in Alex’s eyes and she instantly felt sorry, she leaned over and hugged Alex hard whispering
apologies in her ear as she did so before leaning back again and brushing her knuckles over Alex’s cheek.
“I’m sorry, just people like that really piss me off, I ought to go back there and hand him his ass on a platter.”
Lily’s voice was softer but it finished rather gruffly.
“Yeah I don’t advise that Lily, guys like that are unpredictable, it sounds like you guys only got out cause of
your quick thinking with that gun.” Jameson said drawing attention to himself so the ladies would remember he was
there.
“Yeah, I didn’t have to take the safety off, that guy was a pussy.” Lily was sounding mad again and Alex sighed
and got off the chair and walked over to the coffee maker.
“You know guns?” Jameson asked trying to direct the questioning away from the man that had attacked them.
“Sure, my daddy was a navy man back in the day.” Lily said fondly and Alex smiled.
“So your daddy taught you guns, does he know your gay?” Jameson asked casually.
“He sure does, was more understanding then I thought he would be too, he was a bit of a hard ass but when I told
him he just asked if I was still who he raised me to be.” Lily was smiling now and Alex silently thanked Jameson.
“Well I approve.” Jameson said after glancing around and only seeing Alex within ear shot.
“You approve? Of what?” Lily was confused now and Alex scoffed as she walked back over with three cups of coffee.
“You wouldn’t know it Lil, but this guys the closest thing I have to a father.” Alex said sitting down and smiling
affectionately Jameson.
“Yeah he’s kind of protective but you really don’t get that. So you approve of me then?” Lily raised an eyebrow
and grinned as she spoke.
“Yup, but you have to keep it a secret, you know that me and the kid are close like that.” Jameson put on a conspirators
voice as his co-workers came in with two kids in cuffs.
“I appreciate that really, haven’t really had the chance for a real date or anything but, I really like your kid.”
Lily giggled at the scowl now on Alex’s face.
“Quit calling me a kid, neither of you do anything for me ego.” Alex said a little irately.
“Yeah yeah. I might go and watch these interviews I will come back and tell you if we get a confession, it looks
promising though.” Jameson said as he got out of his seat and taking his coffee he walked towards the interview
rooms.
“Alex I really am sorry for getting so mad, I had just seem some pretty nasty things done to women by homophobes
and the thought of you getting hurt like that…” Lily trailed off staring at the tabled in front of her.
“It means a lot to me that you worry like that hun, but nothing happened, if it had I would be more ok with you
being so brooding. Be happy we are about to catch a killer and you helped.” Alex smiled and reached over putting
her hand on Lily’s knee.
“You think that’s them then?” Lily asked smiling at the touch.
“Yes I have every faith.” Alex used her free hand to push a piece of paper someone had wrote on across the table
for Lily to look at.
“Sean Mason, The sister? Works at a body shop.” Lily read the writing on the paper but not quite getting it.
“Yeah a body shop, works with cars there for I am sure that she would have access to some of the smaller kinds
of Jaws of Life.” Alex explained.
“Oh, good I hope it is them, what I know of your profile seems to fit so far and I hear that your not often wrong.”
Lily grinned.
They sat together making small talk about the case while the interviews were going on and after two more cups of
coffee Fips walked over to them and informed that they both confessed to the murders and that they were being charged
and probably locked up for life.
“It’s sad for them really.” Alex said a little sadly as she watched the twins being lead from the interview rooms
to the holding cells.
“What are you talking about Moss, they killed women rather brutally and you feel bad for them?” Agent Hall asked
as she walked in hearing Alex’s comment.
“Yes I do. Were they treated right as children instead of beaten and blamed for there mothers death then perhaps
they wouldn’t have done what they did. Its kind of like the butterfly affect.”
“How do you figure that?”
“Well think about it, the butterfly flapping its wings on one side of the world was their mother dying during labour,
the affect it had on the opposite side was the brutality they suffered all those years at the hands of there family.”
Alex explained to her colleagues.
“Yeah, you certainly have a point Alex. Its unfortunate that is for sure.” Lily naturally sided with her girlfriend’s
logic.
“Great, two of them. We’re flying back in the morning Moss.” Casey informed Alex who had entered the room when
Fips had.
“I might take a later flight, maybe the day after I have something I would like to do.” Alex said making her mind
up to go to the address Mark Turner had given her.
“Spend more time with your girlfriend? Last night wasn’t enough?” Fips asked a little snidely.
“Never will be either. She said she has something she wants to do, just cause you work with her doesn’t mean you
have to give her a hard time about the choices she makes.” Lily defended Alex perhaps a little unnecessarily.
“Its ok Lily. I have to go and see some people about something not that it is any of your business. Its nothing
to do with Lily, I would see her back home either way.” Alex informed Fips.
Fips didn’t say anything but he didn’t fail to notice the way Lily had shifted subtly to put herself between himself
and Alex and he couldn’t help but feel admiration well up inside him. He shook his head slightly and moved to the
whiteboard and started pulling the photos down.
“Boss, can I stay another day or two there's something I wanted to do?” Alex asked when Jameson walked back into
the room.
Jameson raised an eyebrow at Alex and glanced at Lily before looking back at Alex questioningly.
“You know how I feel about the team spending the Bureau's money on personal things Alex.” Jameson said a little
quietly, assuming it was so she could spend time with Lily.
“I know, but its not what you think. Lily lives pretty close to me so that’s not it at all, it’s something else,
something really important to me, far more important then sex.” Alex explained starting to feel a little frustrated.
“So you two are going serious then?” Fips asked feeling jealousy surge up again. He had always had feelings for
Alex even though he was in his early 30’s and she was only just turning 25.
“Yes we are.” Lily said matter-of-factly and Alex smiled at her, that smile that touched her eyes and melted people.
“Your really a dyke then? Like seriously into women?” Fips asked a little rudely.
“Yes, Scott. Jesus what is your deal?” Alex snapped now annoyed with her co-worker.
“What’s my deal? You haven’t shown any interest in anyone for the 3 years I have known you and you turned me down
more then once but now all of the sudden you are into this woman you met like 2 days ago?” Fips was angry now and
he had taken steps toward Alex but stopped when Lily once again stepped between them.
“Back off man, ok she is gay, there for why would she go out with you, you should be thankful that she didn’t lead
you on and hurt you like she could have. And I'm sure she didn’t date because though I have only known her for
a short time I can see how important her job is too her.” Lily was angry again, she didn’t come across as a violet
person but Alex silently giggled at how quickly she could get angry.
“Then why now?” Fips asked this time his voice was gentler.
Lily didn’t know how to answer that one and she turned to Alex, as had everyone else who was in the room and they
all waited for an answer. Alex looked incredulously from one person to the other and then sighed.
“You guys make life so easy. Ok, why now? Well I’m a firm believer in the Love-at-first-sight theory.” Alex smiled
warmly at Lily as she said it.
Lily, along with everyone else, but especially Lily looked a little dumbfounded at Alex’s confession of Love.
“You love her and you have only known her for 2 days?” Hall asked, disbelief on her face and in her voice.
“You love me?” Lily’s voice was gentle and she had a soft smile on her face that made her beautiful green eyes
larger then usual.
“Yes, I wont lie to you, Lily you just make me feel so… I don’t know, everything and all you need to do is be there,
and you are.” Alex ignored everyone else in the room and spoke only to Lily.
Lily didn’t say anything, she didn’t know what to say, she had been in a few relationships but she had never been
in love, never until she met Alex that was. Lily had known she was in love the moment she laid eyes on Alex walking
up to the house that was the scene of the crime and she had thought of nothing else since then. She moved forward
and with her hands on Alex’s cheeks she pulled her face to her own and kissed her deeply.
“Alright Alex you can have the next couple day’s I'm sure that will be fine just cut that out your making the team
uncomfortable.” Jameson said chuckling at the young girl that had practically been his daughter.
Lily and Alex broke apart as if they had just remembered everyone else was there and they both blushed and grinned
causing the team, including Fips to laugh.
Alex stayed back and helped tidy up the Station room they had used before she and Lily left, they went back to
the Hotel while Alex changed and then went out for dinner at a nice quiet restaurant where they talked about the
case before they started talking about there relationship. After dinner they walked back to the hotel and with
another bottle of wine they sat in Alex’s room getting to know one another and Alex fell asleep leaning against
Lily causing her to stay.
“Alex!” Lily shouted in Alex’s ear early the next morning and laughed profusely when her lover was startled to
the point of yet again falling off the bed.
“That wasn’t very nice.” Alex pouted as she looked at Lily from the floor.
“Sorry but if we are leaving we should do it shortly or we wont be getting back until well into the night.” Lily
informed when she could control her breathing.
“Yeah your right, sorry by the way I didn’t mean to fall asleep on you.” Alex apologised as she got up off the
floor.
“I don’t mind, you kept me warm.” Lily smiled and watched as Alex walked into the bathroom and turned the water
on.
“Yeah but I shouldn’t have assumed you was staying again, that was a little rude of me don’t you think?” Alex started
to unbutton her shirt as she talked to Lily and smiled to herself at the lust in Lily’s big green eyes.
“Think? How am I supposed to do that with you getting undressed in front of me?” Lily cleared her through and followed
Alex’s hands down the front of the shirt.
Alex giggled and stepped back into the bathroom shutting the door, she came back out hardly 5 minutes later with
a towel wrapped about her body and her dripping hair loose. She found her clothes and was getting dressed when
Lily stepped up behind her and kissed the back of her neck and shoulder. She turned around and wrapped her arms
about Lily’s neck and kissed her gently.
Lily moved her hand inside the towel pushing one of the edges aside and ran her fingertips from Alex’s naval up
her flat stomach to cup one of the soft full breasts. She massaged it gently and deepened the kiss and felt her
insides clench with excitement when Alex moaned softly into her mouth. Sadly Alex chose that moment to break the
kiss.
“As much as I love where that is going, I do need to do this, and if you seduce me now I will never get the courage
back to do it.” Alex said softly, her violet eyes were darker then usual, making her desire evident.
“Yeah you right, we have plenty of time for this anyways right.” Lily gently squeezed Alex’s breast one last time
before dropping her hand to her side and smiling at the FBI Agent.
“Right, go shower you smell.” Alex had pulled Lily’s tank top up over her head when she had raised her arms.
“Oh now I get it, its nothing to do with courage and everything to do with how I smell. Your very subtle, Lover.”
Lily rolled her eyes as she said it and grinned when Alex giggled.
“What ever, hurry yourself along.” Alex said watching the muscles in Lily’s back as she walked into the bathroom.
Twenty minutes later they was pulling out onto the freeway starting there 3 hour drive up state to the address
on the paper Mark Turner had given her two days ago. The drive seemed to pass in no time with both women enjoying
each others company and soon Alex had pulled into the long driveway that was her destination.
“Damn, big place, maybe you’re a princess or something.” Lily joked as she looked out the window at the large mansion.
“Yeah maybe not too, don’t get excited your old you will die first.” Alex said jokingly though her voice held little
humour.
“Not If I slip arsenic into your oatmeal.” Lily said now looking at the house in awe.
“At least I know how your going to do it.” Alex climbed out of the car and took a deep breath closing her eyes.
Alex was at the point where she was wondering what she was really doing here and what she was going to get out
of it. Right now she was trying to decided if she should just get back in the car and go home or if she should
go and knock on the door. She had just decided to get back in the car when she felt Lily’s warm hand slip into
her own and squeeze it reassuringly.
“Come on, you can do this Alex, you face murderers of the sickest kind on a daily basis, your definitely strong
enough for this.” Lily said gently as she kissed Alex on the temple.
“Yeah, but I’m a profile, I’m meant to look at something and make up the rest.” Alex turned frightened violet eyes
on her lover and Lily thought her heart would break if she ever saw that scared look again.
“Come on, you just want answers you don’t have to do anything with them. This Mark guy might turn out to be your
father but it could be worse you know.” Lily was trying hard to make Alex go to the door.
“I’m not sure how. But your right, lets go.” Alex strode forward dragging Lily with her and as they reached the
door it opened before Alex could wuss out of knocking.
“May I help you ladies?” A tall man in a common butler’s attire asked as he stepped into the open doorway.
“Ah, Hello, My friend Alex was given this address by a man called Mark Turner?” Lily answered the man when she
noticed Alex was lost for words.
The man looked at Alex and his eyes widened as he noticed her violet irises, then he cringed and this didn’t escape
Lily’s attention.
“Is there a problem?” Lily asked a little haughtily.
“No ma’am, come right in and take a seat I will inform Mr. and Mrs. Wallace.” The butler stepped back from the
door allowing them both access.
They entered the building stepping right into a large parlour, they looked up at the high ceiling in awe and looked
around the large room taking everything in. They was still gazing about the room when the butler walked in with
a slightly older couple in two.
“Ma'ams? Mr. And Mrs. Wallace.” The butler got there attention and then with a sweeping gesture of his arm he introduced
the couple with him.
“Thank you, Hello, This is Lily and I’m – “
“We know who you are Alexandria.” Mrs. Wallace’s voice was a little hoarse and her eyes were so similar to Alex’s
it was hard to tell they was actually deep blue instead of violet at a distance.
“Sorry how do you know me?” Alex was taken aback slightly and she was beginning to wish she hadn’t let go of Lily’s
hand when they was looking about the parlour.
“We have… kept tabs on you since that… man, killed your parents.” Mr. Wallace informed, his expression hadn’t soften
since he had been in there presence.
“We don’t have much else to tell you so I will give it to you blunt, the people that raised you aren’t your parents.
Your mother was our daughter and she was only 14 when she gave birth to you, you have her eyes. Your father was
Mark Turner and he killed the Moss’ because they had agreed to turn you over for since, your aware of the difference
in your blood?” Mrs. Wallace wasn’t very gentle at all and Lily scowled fiercely.
“Yeah, I have different blood then pretty much everyone else I have had some tests done. Mark Turner was my father?
What was her name?” Alex ignored the haughty tones of the people she was speaking too.
“Her name was Isobel Wallace. Is that enough?” Mr. Wallace looked like he was annoyed and his tone said he was
losing his temper.
“Hey you know you could give her a break, none of this is her fault you know she didn’t asked to be born you could
treat her a little kinder.” Lily was mad now and Alex smiled that she had jumped to her aide again.
“It’s ok Lil, they are put out by my being here I can kind of understand it. I mean it appears my coming to be
tore the family apart so it’s ok.” Alex stepped closer Lily and put a gentle hand on the small of her back.
“You let people walk all over you all the time Alex, I don’t like it.” Lily was pouting a little now and it made
Alex chuckle.
“It all depends how you look at it, I prefer to look at like this; If people are treating me poorly, then I'm stepping
on them cause they are pretty low if you know what I'm meaning.” Alex smiled and it reached her eyes and made Lily
feel better.
“Lover’s?” Mr. Wallace asked the question looking from Lily to Alex.
“Yes in fact. I have one last question, do I have any aunts or uncles?” Alex asked curiously.
“Lesbians! In my home! Get out!” Mrs. Wallace was suddenly furious.
The obviously distraught Mrs. Wallace left the parlour muttering angrily about homosexuals which Alex thought was
lucky just going by the fact that her lover’s muscles had tensed when the woman had shouted at them to get out.
“Please I will walk you to your car.” Mr. Wallace said glancing over his shoulder at his wife’s retreating back.
Mr. Wallace walked them to the car and informed them that Alex had an Aunt that the couple had also fell out of
touch with during Isobel’s pregnancy but that she still visited Mark Turner often enough. He said good bye to them
and watched as they drove out the drive way and back onto the freeway.
“Your family sucks!” Lily said a little angrily.
“Your not lying, Mr. Wallace wasn’t so bad though, Gramma was a bit much how ever, you got so mad.” Alex giggled
light heartedly and Lily couldn’t help but admire the way Alex handled some things.
“Your so hard to work out. What are you plans now? Going to see you dad?” Lily asked curiously.
“Not just yet, I might fly up in a week or two I have other plans for now though.” Alex gave Lily a look she couldn’t
quite read.
“Oh, what plans are those?” Lily was more curious by the moment.
“Well I met this girl, so sweet and really protective, a bit of a caveman but hot, she has really sexy legs too.
I want to spend some time with her.” Alex’s smile was sultry and her tone had dropped an octave or two.
“Oh really now? Sounds good, lucky woman, but a caveman really?” Lily’s own voice had dropped rather low.
“A little bit, get angry pretty quick. She seem likely to club me at any moment but god forbid she does cause I
would have to kick her ass.” Alex chuckled.
“Yeah right like you could. I love you Alex.” Lily said the three words softly but she spoke them form her heart
and smiled.
“I love you too Lily, truly.” Alex moved her hand from the steering wheel to Lily’s knee and squeezed it gently.
