I'm Not Supposed to Feel This Way

Copyright © by ave, March 4, 2006

I’m not supposed to feel this way.
I want.
I want…
To feel your warm skin next to mine
To feel and hear your heartbeat in my ear
To gaze into your questioning eyes as my heart pounds against your palm
To find out if your mouth is as sweet and tender as it looks
Would one taste be enough?

I want…
To see through to you the way I feel you see through to me
To hold you in the night
To be your comfort and heal your pain
To help you see your own beauty
To feel you tremble at the touch of my hand
To tremble at the touch of yours, in return
To speak the same language without a sound
Are you listening?

Look in my eyes.
Hear me. Please.
I can’t say it out loud

I am afraid…
To tell you what bubbles beneath the surface
To let on to you what I desire
Would you feel the same?
Would it frighten you as it does me?
Would you despise me?
Would you stay away?
Would it destroy everything that matters?
Would you forgive me for feeling this way?

I’m not supposed to...feel this way.
No, I’m not supposed to…
I’m not. I’m not.
I’m not supposed to feel this way.
Forgive my weakness, but it just won’t go away.

My Prize

Copyright © by ave, March 8, 2006

You are my prize marble,
The one I won't play,
The one I keep warm in my pocket, day after day.
I take you out and gaze at you,
When I don't have to share.
I hold you gently in my palm,
Each time discovering a beauty that I hadn't noticed was there.
Like light through a prism, or sunshine on opal,
Color spills everywhere, when I gaze at you.

Do You Feel It?

Copyright © by ave, April 4, 2006

Do you feel it? A swelling in the chest,
A pounding of the heart, a quickening,
When we are near?
Do you see the soul inside me,
Crying for you?
Reaching for you?
Is it longing or fear I see in your eyes?
Is it the same emotion I saw
When I asked you for that first embrace?
The end of a visit, and I said,
“Don’t I get a hug?”
Harmless though it was, I can still see how your eyes flashed.
Is it my emotion, or yours, that disquiets you?

In Dreams

Copyright © by ave, April 12, 2006

In dreams I‘ve held you
In my arms and close to my heart,
Brushed my mouth across your soft cheek.
Why do I have to be so weak?

In dreams I’m not afraid
To take a chance, say what I feel,
Place my hand where your heart lies.
But awake, why can’t I look into your eyes?

I wake in a sweat
To discover I’m alone, wanting you
Lying next to me, close enough to touch.
I’m not supposed to love you this much.
