There comes a time in your life
No matter your age, be it 5, 15, 23 or 37.
It happens: Maybe when you cross the street,
Or get the mail, check out at the store,
Accept a delivery or look up in the library...
You find some eyes looking at you
Attached to a face; perhaps the same sex as your own.
The repression rushes over you, feeling
Constricting, heavy, unhappy and unfulfilling
To name but a few. Perhaps the lies and denial
Have finally overcome your personal damn.
Suddenly you realize you desperately hope for those eyes,
Those other eyes...
To look at you with affection, concern, understanding
And love; yes love. No different from any heterosexual.
So you realize, in truth, to yourself, that you are gay.
Accepting with a freedom of spirit, the love
From another, like yourself, with pride.
Welcome Home.
This woman in the wilds
The wilds of her mind
Finally caught by societal expectations
And thrown in a cage of mutual making.
Then put on a raft and sent adrift
Through the tide of constant company and media
Training - the book would be called
"The training of the wilds"
And has been marketed widely.
But when one woman from the wilds
Escapes she must free...
You don't leave your wilds to
The taming.
So they free and go free to
Be women of the wilds.
So you sit and look at yourself,
Thinking that this must be how others see you.
It can be a physical or mental assessment,
Just so long as it is what you think others see...
More frequently than not we're too hard on ourselves
And nobody on Earth can change those thoughts in your head but you.
I'd like to think that I'm beautiful, intelligent and attractive
but
I won't let me.
How familiar is this?
Just once a week or month (if you can't go that far)
Take someone else's opinion of you as true.
Creep out on that ledge, send a message to that mailbox!
Start to think that yours is NOT the only opinion that matters
About yourself.
And maybe, just maybe...
Someone else's opinion is true too.
