Feasting on the banquet
of friendship with you
others offer crumbs
you give seconds willingly
I devour the refreshment of you
You accept me, welcome me
to your table
You seat me, hold me near
There's pleasure in the banquet
joy and security
You are nourishment to my hungry soul
We have invited each other
to repast in depending
needing
caring
Let us continue to consume
the spread
the warmth
the friendship
The morning air is crisper today
that fact is to my benefit
the curl of your back
warms me as I curl
close to you
we have intertwined our hearts for quite some time
the joy of knowing you
grows more and more
I am reminded of this as I reach to slowly touch the coolness of your hair
you stretch back into me
I put my arm carefully around you
The pressure of time has a way of stealing moments like this,
but at least we have had these few days together
At least we have had this moment
One of us should stoke the fire
One of us should put the water on for tea
One of us should move
Not now
Not me
You can't listen to my screaming
as I crawl through the ruins of my past
my past as it meets the everyday present
the aching longing of silent nights
of pens scratching the dim paper
of a heart exploding in craving
desire for a clean line
a sure answer
a naked truth
a palatable bit of comfort
but a wallow through the torment
of restraint and giving
of confusion and intricacy
My words cannot speak the volumes
My heart cannot venture the feelings
My eyes cannot truly meet yours
As I listen to your screaming
as you crawl through the ruins of your past
