Come and play
in my sandbox.
We'll build sandcastles together
on the ocean's floor
outside Poseidon's fortress.
I'll set flares to light your way,
and put monsters in your path.
Let them eat your shadow,
let them pick you clean
and place a pearl between your lips.
For only the pure may pass.
Come to me.
Fill my lips
with honey
and I'll place
flowers in your hair.
Lay beneath me
and I'll overtake you
into magenta oblivion
with the sounds of waves crashing
all around,
and the sting of salt
on our mouths.
lay me down
in tangled blankets
and speak my name
sweeter than it's been
said before
hold me loosely
with warm breath
and I'll lull
you sweetly into sleep
with my hand
whispering
through your hair
Arms filled.
Sweat bathes inertia,
dragging it into
ecstasy,
unfamiliar and
raw on tongue,
melting over fingers,
reaching for the fire
in your body
as it throws itself
over the edge.
If you don't have anything nice to say
don't say anything at all,
that's what my momma used to say,
anyway.
And so it stays silent
and the walls throb with the violence
of no-words
and the air stretches too tight
around each avoidance.
I would give it all
for a little kindness,
for just a little give...
I would give more
for a little tolerance,
as you throw your pressure
like missiles, and your intolerance
as thinly veiled boredom.
Indifference marries hostility
as each of us blames the other
for separate tragedies.
I would shoulder all your pain
if I knew what it was,
instead I am on the cross
suffering the sins of others.
How long do you expect
before I climb down?
