The time for pleasantries has passed
though gallant in our efforts
but we are not strangers
meeting perhaps by pure coincidence
We cannot pretend
our eyes, mouths, soft-padded fingertips
are foreign to the gentle lines
and delicate curvatures of each other
Nor have we forgotten softly uttered promises
beneath a vast diamond canopy
as we attempted to quell the burning
of a ravenous and insatiable desire
Oh what bitter tears of sorrow we wept
as fate and misunderstanding
tarnished the beautiful innocence
of a bond formed by trust and love
And now, enclosed within the same four walls
we sit so near, yet terribly distant
the remnants of two shattered souls
forever engaged in quiet discomfort
