For Your Eyes Only

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day
that lights my footfall, metering out this rhyme.
The rays of sun that brighten up the heart,
and send the pulses racing out of time

I might compare thee to a breeze that floats
on high, then down - softly brushing my cheek.
- But thou are not the gossamer, floating
down to me - nor the light caress I seek.

Like a bolt of electricity your
gentlest of touches disrupt the very
core of my soul, leaving me there, wanting
to follow, but knowing not to tarry.

Oft thou art a gust wafting through my mind
that folds itself around me, right on cue.
A blanket filled with comfort, true and strong
where I can nestle and, well, think of you.

Thou art Aphrodite, god of love
and beauty, Borne from the sea of Cyprus.
You hold the key to minds and souls, leaving
their link to reality - tenuous.

But it’s your eyes, wherein lies your power
to mesmerise, even to hypnotise.
Beyond my control they drew me up, to
light on Vesuvius, and my demise.

I teetered on the brink, about to fall
deep into the abyss, as your gaze held
me stupefied. The strength I seized, I know
not how, to pull away, as senses welled.

But to reinforce your sacred power
not just once, but twice your gaze sweetly burned,
ignoring the presence of all others
as you spoke to them but to my face turned.

That was not well made my sweet; to fire me
to think and dream of you - of you comely.
I’m your true servant - not companion
I would give all, just for your eyes only
