her arms hands stomach hair
whatever called my attention from the attraction of slumber
her cool warm skin under my fingers
her perfume in my head and her lips so close.
the beauty of her mind and her thoughts that are a mystery
that I am not ready to give up until
the sun creeps up over her windowsill splashing
her face with everything else still as the snow far away
that is now only a memory of beginnings.
no now i can't turn away to feel
her fingers on my waist and her breath warm on the
back of my neck so gentle
because her face will be hidden from my eyes and my elusive dreams.
god, let us lie in the hammock and spend our time carefree with no
tensions and roadblocks and doors
until the sun comes up
and then i won't have shadows of
tests and distractions that make my hands finally be still
as i relax in her arms and the darkness.
I felt so close to you then
huddled together in that house
under a mountain of snow
with no place to go
and I first saw you then
listening to you
and sarah mclachlan
in our bedroom every night
And for the first time
I laid my head on a new shoulder
and spoke with a new voice
with different color eyes
and I called it a moment
All I wanted was to let you know
how great you were
and how much I cared
but somehow it came out sounding
completely different and so much more
that I didn't even know I meant
and you also called it a moment
But the moment became months
Months when true friends
slid into the background
and didn't matter as much as us
Because you growled at me playfully
and rolled over to me that night
and we were suddenly intrigued
by each other
But the growl became a buzz
and I guess I wasn't as intriguing
but I still want to live
in new york city one day
and we'll eat at gray's papayas
every night
if you'll just growl at me
or kiss me one more time.
