Stretch:
To extend or reach over a distance or area or in a given direction

Stretching should never be done quickly; it should be done at leisure and at length. Riley O'Brien firmly believed that and she was always a woman who practiced what she preached...

From limb to limb she pushed and pulled working from her strawberry blond head down to her covered toes. She drew each muscle tight, straining against her own strength only to release each muscle slowly, but surely. With every movement she became more and more aware of her body. She listened closely to what it wanted. A little stretching here, a little massaging there, but she diligently chose to ignore what a certain part of her anatomy was saying it desperately needed.

Each time it crossed her mind she tried to refocus her pent up energy, but as she rolled her head across her almost bare shoulders her eyes locked onto a figure, camera in hand, leaning against the strong trunk of one of her favorite trees in the park. Immediately, that part of her began speaking again.

Jordan Davies glanced from woman to dog and back again through the camera lens. They were both beautiful and so was the ability to zoom in. She could damn near see the perspiration on the woman’s skin. A part of Jordan wished she could have the woman and the dog, but she knew better then to let herself think that way. It was useless, not to mention pointless. However, that didn't stop her from looking. She had resisted the urge to take shots of the woman, but that was before the woman seemed to be staring back at her. In truth, Jordan wasn't positive if the woman was really looking at her, looking right through her or looking right into her. Nevertheless, it was unnerving. She wasn't sure if her finger just slipped or if it was intentional, but when she heard the click she knew she'd captured the woman. She would have her forever; at least digitally.

Riley was startled when the dog took off from her side chasing after a squirrel. Something of which, she’d never seen him do, hence why he wasn't on a leash. Her body went into autopilot as she quickly put her thoroughly stretched muscles to use chasing after him.

By the time Riley caught up to the little bugger he was being lavished with attention while she was busy catching her breath. Only, she wasn't sure if it was from the mad dash across the park or the sight of the petite dark haired woman, up close, that had stolen her breath. She liked to think it was the latter since she prided herself on being in fairly good shape. And by looking down into the heart shaped face with bangs draped seductively across one brow she knew the answer for certain.

“Is he yours?”

Riley wasn't used to being asked if anything male was hers. “No, No. I prefer girls...dogs. I mean girl dogs.”

Jordan listened as the woman stumbled over her words and it brought a reassuring smile to her face. “Well, if this handsome guy isn't yours who does he belongs to?”

Riley dropped herself down to their level, “No one.”

Riley hated to admit it, but the sight of the sad, concerned face looking back at her over Georgie's head was a bit of a turn on. Ok, more then a turn on since she couldn't imagine life with a partner who didn't feel for furry creatures. A woman with a heart for animals was a woman after her own heart.

“What do you mean no one?”

Riley laid her hand to Georgie's head and then let her hand sweep down his back, naturally grazing Jordan's hand. At the slight contact their eyes locked.

“We're still trying to find the right fit.”

Riley had paused letting the words hang between them, “Georgie here is one of the rescues from my shop across the street. We're just out for a run and some sun.”

Jordan's eyes never left Riley's, not even to glance across the street. “Well, I better not keep you then; I wouldn't want all that stretching you did to go to waste.”

Riley didn't bother questioning the innocence of the statement because there was nothing innocent about the dark eyes looking at her. Instantly, Riley was ready to go for round two of stretching if that meant keeping those eyes on her.

“Stretching’s never wasted.”

Jordan wouldn't argue with that. In fact, she could think of at least ten good ways she'd be able to prove exactly that and that was just what immediately came to mind. She was positive she could think of at least a dozen more.

“That's true. Flexibility can always be put to good use.”

Riley pulled on her fuller bottom lip drawing it partially into her mouth to keep from saying something ridiculous like, I'd like to wrap my legs around you. She stood, allowing the dog to move from between them as she checked her wayward thoughts and searched for safer ground.

Jordan usually wouldn't mind being on her knees for a woman, but she forced her focus back up to the woman's beautiful face. A face that with it's clear skin, slightly full mouth and intriguing green eyes left her a little breathless.

Riley again noticed the camera, "You're a photographer?"

"Yes."

"What do you take pictures of?"

"Anything that I find beauty in, like this park."

A smile spread across Riley's face because she knew instinctively that it was only moments ago that the camera had been pointed at her, not the park. She extended her slender fingers out to assist the woman in standing. However, Riley was mindful not to fully extend her arm so when the woman stood up it brought her up and in closer a full step, bringing them both into what would be the circle of each others arms, lover’s arms.

Jordan was enjoying their slight height difference. It wasn't often at 5'5" that Jordan got to enjoy the "view". She stole one very quick glance at the slight cleavage visible from the athletic top and then imagined tilting the woman's chin up for a kiss. Suddenly, she remembered that they had yet to even introduce themselves and there she was fantasizing. She could feel her cheeks grow warm with embarrassment, but she also knew that there was part of her that was even hotter.

Riley didn't let go of the hand nestled firmly in her own. The slightly rough texture contrasting against her own softness was enticing. Never really being one to shy away from physical touch she turned the hand over in her palm and used her fingers to trace through the newly exposed territory.

Jordan was getting hot under the collar with the way Riley was caressing the inside of her palm. Her eyelids wanted to slide closed thinking of those same fingers tracing similar patterns across her back and across all other parts of her. Her one and only serious weakness was a woman's touch and as it suddenly seemed, especially this woman’s touch.

Riley and Jordan were startled by Georgie who decided to speak up for them. They both dropped their hands and laughed nervously as they looked down at the brown eyes staring impatiently up at them. The dog's adorable face took the heat they were both feeling down to a less combustible level.

“Well, I guess we better run.”

Riley waited briefly for a response. She was disappointed when her words were met with silence. However, she was delighted that the desire to say something was there in her eyes. It both intrigued and excited her because it was definitely a look that said more than just, "see you around."

Jordan was at a loss for words because there was something intoxicating about this woman and it left her feeling a little dumbstruck. There was a super sexy all natural energy that exuded from the alluring female standing before her. There was a realness and a confidence about her that Jordan was both envious of and captivated by.

Riley started moving backwards signaling her intent to leave, but hoping she would be stopped.

She halfheartedly raised her hand to the still silent woman in front of her to wave good-bye.

The moment Jordan raised her own hand to say good-bye, she regretted it because by the time she let her hand drop she was watching the unnamed woman and Georgie race off into the sunset.

#

Judging from the tingles Riley woke up with she knew it had been a good night. She didn’t mind one bit starting the day with laughter and passion, even if it was only in her sweet dreams. The face from yesterday and her dreams were one in the same. That of the mystery woman from the park. A woman who officially had no name, but who had certainly left an impression, an impression that had spurred on a night of erotic and delicious scenarios that had danced in Riley's head all night long. Riley knew her self well enough to know that the hot dreams were a sign that she either needed to find a new project to put her excess energy into or she needed to find a woman to expend those energies on. Maybe, even a combination of the two, but since it was easier to find a good project then a good woman that's what she decided to focus her energies and her day on.

Riley moved around her rather disastrous apartment after a very quick and slightly cooler then normal shower. She tried to get herself together for the day by making a mental list of things she wanted to accomplish. It was a rather long list, then again it always was.

Once she was as put together as she was any other day with her hair pulled into a loose knot against her neck she was out the door with a mess of paper work under one arm, a hot tea in hand and a bagel between her teeth. As always she was ready to tackle the day in her own unique way.

Normally, she'd ride her bike to work and cut through the streets of Portland fast and fierce, but today she made her way slowly about the sidewalks and through the park in hopes of running into a certain someone. However, a short while later Riley breezed through the back door of her store. She was bummed she hadn't encountered the dark haired beauty with seriously kissable lips, but luckily, there were lots of furry faces to help pick up her spirits. It always took her awhile once she got inside because she had to stop and give the ceremonious hugs, kisses, kind words and of course treats to each of her furry friends. Collectively they were an odd bunch, but she loved all of them dearly; no matter if they had been in her care for one day or over a year as a few had been. She loved them all the same and everybody in the LGBT community and the community at large knew that she was the go to girl when a stray was found.

Later in the afternoon Riley sat playing with a group of puppies as well as the momma dog, in the front display window. She provided each little pup with the much needed physical touch they craved. She couldn’t help but crave the same thing, but she knew that it wasn’t just any physical touch she was craving.

The little boy puppy she held nipped her nose while giving her excited kisses. Riley was used to receiving little love bites from her tiny friends so she couldn’t help but laugh. Her laughter died when she looked up and saw who was on the other side of the glass.

Jordan had lost her ability to move the moment she’d laid eyes on her. There she was sitting amongst more of her little friends. A scene which had her mesmerized. It ranked right up there as one of the cutest, if not the cutest thing she’d ever seen. Jordan stood there with her hands tucked into her jeans pockets staring at the vision before her with such blatant interest. Jordan had spent much of the night and the entirety of the morning thinking about the unnamed woman who had made her body feel alive even when every other part of her felt numb.

Riley’s breath caught in her throat as she nervously coiled a stray piece of hair around her ear. She lifted that same hand a moment later and waved tentatively. She was rewarded with a sexy half smile and a wave before being left sitting there feeling foolish with her hand up in the air once again.

She shook her head in disbelief. She thought for sure the mystery woman would have at least come into the shop to introduce herself, but no she just walked on her merry way. Granted, Riley didn't mind the view, but she would have much rather the woman come inside.

Throughout the day, Riley caught herself thinking about the strange incident. Truthfully, she had difficulty keeping her mind on anything else. It was like her mind was stuck on stupid. People had to repeat themselves to her all day long. By five she was so happy to be nearing the end of what had turned out to be a very frustrating day. She had just a few more things to finish on her to do list before heading home. One of which was to bath Cheeto, one of her long time residents who'd been found in an ally with her head stuck in a cheeto bag.

“Come on girl, let's go, bath time, let's go get you all prettied up,” Riley quickly found herself elbow deep in soap suds with her shirt front soaked.

Jordan once again stood in front of the window full of adorable puppies, but their playmate was no where in sight. She took a deep breath and entered the store. She didn't know what to expect, but she knew in her heart she should expect nothing. She wasn't even sure why she'd come back. It's not like she would or even could pursue anything.

“Damn it, Cheeto. Get back here. I'm not finished with you.” Riley stopped in her tracks.

Jordan knew it was now or never. “Well, hello Cheeto. Would you mind introducing me to your friend because it seems I lose my words whenever I am around her?”

Riley's frustration from the morning immediately dissipated as Jordan and Cheeto walked towards her.

She couldn't help but play along.

“Cheeto and I go way back, I'm Riley."

Riley extended her hand and without hesitation Jordan grabbed it.

Again, their grasp lingered until interruption as Cheeto shook her wet body. They sprang apart laughing, yet again.

"Damn, I am so sorry. Come into the back and we'll get you dried off."

Jordan wasn't that wet, well at least not from Cheeto.

#

Riley first took one arm and then the other as she diligently dried the droplets from Jordan's skin. As she would drag the towel down the front side she would drag her free hand down the backside. They were both well aware that the amount of attention Riley paid this task was unnecessary.

"So, mystery chick, you got a name?"

"Jordan, Jordan Davies."

Jordan wanted to reach out and stroke a piece of hair behind Riley's ear. It had fallen free from the bun at the nape of Riley's neck. Jordan envisioned releasing Riley's hair from its constraint to let it cascade around Riley's shoulders.

Riley noticed one final drop, imaginary or not, at the base of Jordan's neck. She imagined flicking it away with her tongue.

"I missed a spot."

She took a step closer and raised her hand to brush a fingertip across that spot. She could tell Jordan was having naughty thoughts of her own, but since she was not acting on them Riley decided to not be so daring either. After all, she didn't want to scare Jordan off.

"Do you need some help?"

It took Riley a second to pull her mind from the gutter to realize that she’d been in the middle of something before Jordan had appeared. Riley took a step backwards and followed Jordan’s eyes to a still soggy Cheeto standing at her feet.

"I'm sorry girl. I didn't mean to forget about you. Let's get this soap washed off you."

Jordan watched at how with the snap of Riley’s fingers Cheeto made her way up the stairs to the tub and got in. Jordan wasn't quite ready to leave and even though she hadn't technically been invited to stay, she took a step towards them.

Riley went about rinsing Cheeto off, but was completely aware of every move Jordan made. Riley liked the shy way she had followed them to the tub and she really liked the way Jordan kept anxiously, almost nervously moving the bangs from the right side off her face with her left hand.

Mostly, Jordan kept her eyes down cast, but when her eyes were on Riley, she could feel it.

Jordan found watching Riley to be mesmerizing. She couldn't resist taking her camera out on her bag.

"Do you mind?"

Riley looked up for a moment and shook her head no. She’d never been camera shy before so why start now. As soon as the camera was in Jordan's hands Riley could see the difference in her. She suddenly moved about Riley with ease and confidence.

Jordan worked all the angles around Riley. She was lost in her own little world so it startled her when a woman appeared in the frame behind Riley. She immediately let the camera drop, making eye contact with the older woman. Jordan said nothing and Riley was oblivious, but that didn't stop the woman from sailing into the room.

"How's my baby girl today?" asked the woman.

Riley looked up and was all smiles. Jordan was focused on the words baby girl. She was ready to fade into the background to leave the odd couple alone.

"Mornin', Mom."

Realizing they weren't a couple didn't make Jordan stop in her tracks. In fact, it increased her urge to escape. Jordan was never good with meeting the parents, especially mothers. Then again, she wasn't good with mothers, in general, since she never knew what it was like to have one. Now, what did stop her in her tracks was the sound of Riley's sweet voice.

"This is Jordan. Jordan this is my mom, Sharon."

Riley's mom made her way around the wash tub to greet her daughters new "friend". Jordan extended her hand, but it was brushed away with warm words and a hug. Jordan looked at Riley who had turned fully to watch the exchange. She had a thoughtful expression and a smile on her face. It was enough to distract Jordan from remembering that she was in the arms of a stranger.

Riley's mom stepped back and looked from one girl to the other as they looked at one another. Her mom knew that look in her daughters eyes. She also thought there was something familiar about Jordan, but she couldn't put her finger on it.

"Are you from around here, Jordan?"

"No, ma'am, I'm just in town for a few days."

Riley's mother knew that Riley hadn't known that because of the way her smile had faltered just a bit at the revelation.

"So, where are you from, then?"

"No where in particular, really."

Riley's mom quickly realized this young lady wasn’t much for talking about herself.

Jordan gave her usual answers to the questions she was asked all the time, but as sweet as Riley's mom was, she felt bad for not being more forthcoming. It simply wasn’t her style. Besides, she certainly didn't want to say why she was really in town.

She figured since she didn't want to be rude she better escape before it turned into twenty questions.

"I've gotta get going, Riley. It was nice to meet you, Sharon."

Riley was a bit startled by Jordan’s departure. Riley's mom could tell her daughter had more to say to Jordan so she offered to finish up with Cheeto so Riley could walk Jordan out.

#

"You should swing by the park tomorrow. We're having an adoption day." Riley did her best to ensure Jordan would attend. "I'm sure there will be lots to take pictures of as we find some of these guys homes."

Jordan didn't know what she’d planned for the next day. She never knew what she would be doing from one day to the next.

She tended not to make plans, that way she didn't have to break plans, but she found herself asking Riley what time.

"It's pretty much all day so drop by anytime for as long as you like. No Pressure."

Jordan returned Riley's warm smile and began her exit. Riley put her hand on Jordan's arm to stop her. Jordan turned and found herself yet again being hugged, only this time she was more then happy to stay there. It didn't feel at all uncomfortable to be in Riley's arms. It actually felt very natural.

Riley whispered in Jordan's ear, "I'm really glad you decided to come back."

#

"I see you picked up another stray." At her daughters sour expression she continued on, "Don't get me wrong she seems like a nice girl, Riley. Quite cute, of course, but..."

Riley rolled her eyes knowing her mothers tone. Sometimes, it was hard having a mother for a best friend because boundaries were constantly being crossed.

"But nothing, mother."

As a mother, Sharon was always worried about her daughter because she always wanted to help the lost and troubled whether they were animals or people. She both loved and hated that about her daughter. Thankfully, she had never seen her daughter get her heart broken because of her caring nature, but she had certainly gotten taken advantage of in other ways.

"So, where did you two meet?"

"In the park yesterday. She's a photographer. She was there taking pictures and our little Georgie boy decided to chase a squirrel up the tree she was standing next to."

"So, you just met?"

Riley knew what was coming next.

"I hope you’re being more careful this time."

Riley knew what her mother was referencing.

"Trust me; I’m not getting lead around by my wallet, mother."

"Actually, I’m more concerned with you protecting your heart. I can tell from the way you look at Jordan, this one's different."

"Come on mom, like I have always told you there isn't a woman in the world that has the power to break my heart."

Riley's mother knew her daughter really believed that, but no matter how strong of a woman she was, she knew that there was one out there that would be able to break Riley's heart and her gut said Jordan just might be the one that her daughter didn't believe existed. Of course, she knew her daughter wouldn't believe it until it was too late. She also knew that it was because of her father, that Riley was determined to believe no body could hurt her the way her father had hurt her mother.
