Wet

I listened to the soft patter of rain on my roof and watched it cascade down my window.

She liked the rain. A smile played upon my lips and I reached for the phone.

It rang several times before she answered a polite `Hello!’

`It's raining.... wanna get wet?' I asked with a smooth tongue. She laughed cynically, convinced that I was playing a joke on her. I sighed and spoke sharply. `Get your coat on... I'll meet you at the phone-box... you know the one.' I hung up and grinned.

I stood under the streetlight and hopped from foot to foot impatiently. I bided my time by watching the mist roll in over the jetty. I breathed in the crisp night air; I smelt the rain and the storm to come. The summer tempest was a relief to the endless sweltering heat and all I wore was an overcoat and a grin. I opened up my coat and let the cool breeze sweep over my body.

Car headlights flooded over me, I wrapped my coat back around myself and I turned towards the car as it parked beside the phone-box.

She exited the car and barely acknowledged me -just the way she had explained her fantasy to me. She entered the phone-box and pretended to study the phone book.

I strolled casually towards her, opened the door and stepped inside with her.

She over-dramatically turned and squealed, `Excuse me... but exactly what are you doing?' She tried to repress a giggle.

`Exactly... what you want me to do.' My hands moved forward and unbuttoned her coat. I pushed it aside and slid my arms around her, she moaned from the warmth my hands gave. Her nakedness under the coat thrilled me and her nipples, hard and impatient, could be seen even under the soft glow of the florescent light surrounding us.

Her hand moved around and unwrapped my coat, revealing my own nudity. I smiled coyly. She grinned and laughed. `You walked down here, clad only in that? This time of night!' I nodded still smiling. She kissed me gently then started to nuzzle at my neck, I swooned. She pulled me closer and wrapped herself around me, we both sighed in unison.

The rain begun to get heavier, matching our hot passion and hunger. Her kisses deepened and her tongue explored my mouth and searched for my tongue. I wrestled away from her kiss and nuzzled at her neck, her head dropped back as she whispered my name.

`Who... do you want?' I breathed into her ear.

`You... ' She oozed back breathlessly. I smiled to myself, my hand ran down her thigh, teasing her... I felt her knees shake.

`Who... do you want?' I asked again with a low growl in my throat.

` You...’ She repeated desperately, her eyes sought my own. I turned my face away from her, so she couldn't read my thoughts - not yet anyway. As a distraction I cupped her in my hand, she gasped then sighed and I could feel her bear down upon my hand.

`But it's not me you want...' I spoke firmly into her ear. I could feel her need her greed... it trembled inside of her.

`I met your new socially-acceptable girlfriend.’ I felt her knees buckle and a shocked gasp broke from her throat. I pushed her away at arm’s length. Only then, did I allow her to see the raging emotions swirling around inside of me.

She, seen the pain she had caused - the betrayal and something else that put fear into her eyes. She, tried futilely to speak but words failed her. I perceived the questions that raced past her eyes of which - I had every intention of satisfying her morose curiosity.

`How do I know? - You may well ask!’ I grinned devilishly. `Let’s start from the top, shall we... ‘ I leaned casually back against the booth’s door.

`When we first met, I found you so - captivating and charismatic that I only wanted to be with you - to be loved by you... ‘ I swallowed hard in an attempt to retain my composure. `You, would tell me that when you were ready for a real relationship - it would be with me. You lied and you used me... ‘

I glared at her with bitter disgust and antagonism. She blinked back at me with vacant eyes - resembling that of a rabbit caught in a spotlight.

`For whatever reason - you deceptively used me. I did not fit your idyllic role of official girlfriend, so you found some one who did - Kate. Then you proceeded to lie and cheat with her also!’ I wrapped my coat back around me, angrily.

Words finally came to her, as savage as they were.

`Okay, so it’s true - all of it! I wanted my Kate and wanted to eat you too... ‘ She, laughed at her own satirical joke but her sly grin suddenly faded as insight grasped it away and replaced it with a frantic facade.

Her words came rushed and desperate. `What have you said to Kate?’ For a split second I saw a flash of pure white anger pass over her face, she was scared and was grasping at straws. `I’ll just deny it you know, I’ll say you were obsessed with me and that you would do anything to... ‘

My blithe laughter ceased her smugness instantaneously.

`You are so pathetic, I almost pity you - almost!’ I grinned. `You should have been careful, should have anticipated all this - should have been honest and not caused all this... pain.’ I watched her swallow hard and grit her teeth. I shifted my eyes from her burning glare and glanced up the dark, wet street and noticed a sole, shadowed figure approaching us.

I pointed a finger sharply at her, trying to emphasis my point. `You could of come forward with all this and given me an option of whether I wanted - loved you enough to stay and simply be considered casual by you - instead of what you have forced me to do... ‘

I pulled open the phone-box door and exited. Her hand grasped mine and I spun around to a forlorn face.

`Please... I need you.’ I studied the desperate face, watched a practiced tear escape from her eye.

`You never have before... ‘ I gave a stern look and turned away.

Her voice boomed out behind me, angry and reckless. `How do I know whether you are telling the truth about Kate. How do I know you even met and spoke to her... why should I believe you!’

For the first and last time - I hated her. Her lies, her deceptiveness... her inability to accept blame for her mistakes.

With her same disposition I spoke undauntedly. `Oh, honey... don’t take my word for it - ask her for yourself!’ I motioned towards a woman standing in the rain - observing the whole scene.

` Kate! Oh, God, no...’ She moaned audibly and collapsed back against the phone-booth piteously.

Kate moved beside me and grasped my hand, her eyes shifted down to avoid her despondent expression.

I clarified further. `You, can only imagine what grief we went through when Kate and I met - quite incidentally, mind you and discovered we had more in common than we wanted to believe... Kate needed to witness it - hence this... meeting.’

She slumped even further and trembled visibly.

`You see, I made two phone-calls tonight with the same conversation - notice Kate’s long coat... She’s here for the exact same reason you were!’

She wept openly as Kate clung even closer to me urging me to finish and leave, I obliged.

`Well, hate to love and leave you... but we’ve got a date!’ I grinned and turned away.

We left her slumped in the rain at that phone-box with only her own misery to keep her company.

We walked towards the nearby beach, not caring about the rain...

We liked the rain.
